I had a good one late one night, may or june. There wasnt a moment where the sky didnt have a flash for 20-30mins. A few out the west country too, bristol way, and some 'kent clippers' localised flooding etc. Europe had some massive storms certainly. Far greater quantities of strikes/min then last year during peak events for example. This summer was incredibly meridional, the jet was folded back on itself at times. Hence we'd get a hot burst as a northward limb passed over us, rapidly cooling as the southbound limb followed. Id hazard a guess that generally the airmasses passed over us so quickly, interactions between hot and cold were rapid, and any heat didnt really get time to setup sustained convection. But im just guessing....

Yes Birder, a lack of thunder storms and their occurrence are both a signs of climate change.

Be careful what you wish for ....No thunderstorms forecast for the rest of the year in the Midlands, a pity as I do like a good storm as long as it doesn't get too close.

I am currently living in central Florida, second only to the African Rift valley in storms. If you want to see thunderstorms Central Florida is a good place to be. However, they are a little stronger than your average UK thunderstorm. I had a lightning strike only 40ft away take out one of my palm trees - noisy - thanks to a 'whole house no-break/smoother' system only the pool equipment electrics needed replacing. Add rain at ~6inches an hour rate and it can get a little too exciting Don't come to Florida if you don't like getting wet.
