Given that we know the PCR tests have well known false positive issues this would guarantee a never ending fear campaign☹ “Everyone in the country will be encouraged to take two Covid tests a week to show they are not infected, Boris Johnson will announce on Monday. The rapid lateral flow tests will be paid for by the Government and can be delivered to homes free of charge from Friday. The multi-billion-pound expansion of testing is designed to catch Covid outbreaks early as the economy reopens. While the tests are voluntary, the announcement could pave the way for workplaces or businesses to ask staff or customers to show they have a negative result.” www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2021/04/04/public-will-urged-take-covid-test-twice-week-lockdown-rules/"Rapid antigen (lateral flow) tests are better at identifying covid-19 infection in people with symptoms than in those with none, although the diagnostic accuracy of different brands of tests varies widely, a Cochrane review has found." www.bmj.com/content/372/bmj.n823"Confirmatory PCR is important not only for identifying false positives and tracking their rates, but also because the samples submitted can be sequenced to pick up and track variants of concerns. The World Health Organization recommends the practice in low prevalence settings because the “rate of false positives compared to true positive results will be high.” www.bmj.com/content/372/bmj.n706Wow, sounds so reassuring! Hi Toby, Please check your board messages.

Abbot who make a lot of the test kits in the USA are really pushing their 'at home' test kits in TV advertising at the moment. It had occurred to me that there could be a considerable issue with false positive vs the more likely false negatives. FauXi is not making money from these tests so we are less likely to see the unedifying spectacle of arguments on the Senate floor between FauXi and Senators; but I can see it happening if FauXi (or Pharma,) think that there is serious money to be made from the new 'at home' testing regimes.
