Spent some happy days at Goose Bay. Although when I was there although there was lying snow the weather was clear and mainly still and minus 37F so a little chill. But the humidity was so low, it didn't feel as cold as Framingham Mass did a week later at 20F I spent a short time in Goose Bay and I remember how cold it was. I was on a commercial flight from New York to London and a passenger began fighting with the cabin crew. They wrestled him down and he stopped fighting but they decided to land in Goose Bay to remove him from the plane. After landing the police arrived and both the front and rear doors were opened. We were not at the terminal gate, if there was one. The wind and snow blew through the cabin and it was cold. We, the passengers, did not have much protection. The police had heavy coats and hats. It took maybe 5 minutes to remove the unruly passenger. It took what seemed like forever for the cabin and me to warm up. I remember my fingers being numb.

The accommodation that I was in was mainly Quonset huts in rows separated by possibly 25 yards of snowy ground with paths. Making that crossing with a friend who had just showered one evening. By the time we got into the hut in the next row that we were walking to his damp hair had frozen

I wonder if that will be reported This is the perfect example of the "Lake Effect" snow. I spend half the year in the county immediately below the snow belt. Lake Erie is now around 50F and it gives off a lot of warm, moisture-laden air to the passing cold weather which blows to the east. The area east of Lake Erie is about 500 Ft higher than Lake Erie's surface and 25F cooler. The snow belt will get around 65 inches per year of snow versus 30 inches just 20 miles south. This extra snow typically occurs in 4 or 5 storms in November-December or until the lake freezes over. Quite often it will be sunny and clear here, and you can see a dark cloud rolling past to the north dropping copious amounts of rain or snow.

I grew up just a mile south of Niagara Falls, and when cold fronts came through in November and December we could see the Lake effect cloud bands to the south of us dropping ungodly amounts of snow in the "snow belts." We would get a flurry at my house, and have to wait for the more continental snowstorms of January and February to give us enough snow for our forts and snowball fights. Sometimes it got deep enough for us to build tunnels through the drifts.

We just had our first freeze last night here just south of Houston, Texas. Depending on what site you use it is either right on time or a full 20 days early.

The temperature dropped to just below 50F here this morning with ~30F forecast dependent on who you believe for tomorrow morning bit chill for the Central Florida Atlantic coast this time of year.

Yesterday's low was 30 F Today the low was 66 F
When you live on the Gulf Coast that is the difference between a north wind and a south wind off the gulf.

A cool day everywhere In Florida that wouldn't be called warm Sig It just struck me that this is right on time for Astromet's start of winter - it was like a switch here - 85F then 50F with close to frost overnight.
