Has anyone else noticed manipulation with on-line historic weather data. I use the WEATHER UNDERGROUND web site for weather info. A few weeks ago I discovered a curious thing while comparing the current temp with 2008s - that temps for 2008 had risen and now show that spring and early summer temps were warmer than normal. Which contrasted greatly with my recollection of a much cooler than normal spring ( the last of the snow in my yard didn't melt until the 5th of May) and very cool summer were it didn't start getting warm until after the middle of July. In fact one date that really stands out was the 8th of June when I woke up to an 18F morning (I remembered that day as it had killed my 3rd and last planting of tomatoes) I don't recall the high of the day but don't think it got above the mid 50s. Compare that with the Weather Undergrounds current records showing a low of 66F and high of 78F. (Oscoda, Mi)

Does the 'WayBack Machine' archive these pages? It may be an idea to look.

Interesting. It needs study and comparison with the data itself ( data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/tabledata/GLB.Ts+dSST.txt) to understand what the change log refers to. Note the legend above the data tables: I'm really happy to see that it is some sort of Index . Otherwise, there was an Ice Age between 1880 and 1977 that somehow we overlooked. At the end of the day, this is DATA from GISS, run by HANSEN, with ELIMINATION of data and ADJUSTMENTS, which (if plotted) would show a HOCKEY STICK.Taxpayers fund this stuff.

The site simply tracks for any changes for the entered web address. I just used GIStemp as an example.

I had trouble understanding the log and chased its link to its source, where I had trouble understanding what was being presented, why all the early stuff was negative and why there were no data definitions.

LOL. It was I who didn't clarify what the purpose of the website is, so no need to apologize. The GIStemp constant adjustments are a mystery digging into their code. A few have tried. It is a royal mess.

Did you see this -- Table Value : 40 change : .40C or .72F at the bottom of the gistemp data file? Those negative numbers, i.e. -53, represent -.53 degrees celsius below the "zero anomaly line."
