The gulf stream (along with other currents) smears the heat of the world around. Its responsible for the UK's warm but rainy weather. Without the gulf stream much of western europe would be a bit colder and the UK would be WAY colder. Perhaps some perspective is in order here...the UK is about as far north as...the Aleutian Islands.
Now with this El Nino, Warmologists will reassure the world global warmingclimate change climate chaos is in well agreement with climate models even if they can't predict ENSO events or any other climate processes.
Just ask Met O. After their miserable failure in 2007, their latest greatest new and improved GCM correctly postdicted 2008, therefore all future predictions can be trusted
"CO2 levels currently at 388 ppm are the lowest in 300 million years."
You are right, it is not the lowest, but "just" one of the lowest. The highest was around 7,000 ppm, but don't forget, at 140 ppm the photosynthesis stops working and forget vegetable, fruit, trees....all gone. Safe concentration is at 1,000 ppm. If we double present concentration this would have minor effect on GW, just nicely wonderful increase in vegetation and improved crops ( around 25-45%, depends on sort of plants...).
Just check Boltzman-Stefan law and you'll see there is simply a minor effect on warming untill we are talking on ppm scale of CO2 concentrations. Water, Water, Water ! And of course, our great warming machine, SUN ! If you chase mafia, follow the money, if you chase warming of our planet, just follow our Sun evaporating/condensing H20. And of course, distribuiting accumulated heat in oceans, atmosfere....
