Just this week I clicked onto the story of the American exchange student Amanda Knox from Seattle Washington; seeing how ideology drove her fate.
In particular I found a parallel between the climate denialism so prevelent on this forum and the behaviour of the legal authorities in Italy who drove the imprisonment of this unfortumate girl for the past four years in order to defend their illogical point of view.
It is about denialism, and how it works. How many people continue to assert that this poor, simple girl is a viscious murderer. I think this story tells us a lot about how denialism works.

I can deny any knowledge of the case, as I do not follow that kind of crap!

Interesting to see that forum members have no comments.
Not to suggest that forum members have no gumption.

Thermostat,
Could you enlighten us as to what parallels you find?
You might be surprised at how high-purity cocaine can turn simple girls "viscious".

You really have to want to see something there to find that parallel. I suppose you have studied the details of this case? Possibly sat in on the presentation of the evidence? Have all the information you need to make an informed judgement? (I'll have to confess that I haven't, but I also am not trying to pretend like I have.) So tell me, what is your PhD in? Can you provide us to a link to your dissertation/thesis? I'm sure a PhD would have no problem doing so. Your cognitive processes certainly do not seem like a researcher to me, and I really don't need to throw my arm out of socket reaching for lessons in unrelated material to draw that conclusion.

Gag me with a thermometer! "I've found a link between climate alarmism, Bozo the Clown and dementia!" **Come on, Dr. T, you can do better than this! You're grasping at straws here. Have you checked any entrails lately for the climate forecast? Note: Photo courtesy of the Large and Small Intestine Climate Forecasting Company. All rights reserved.Should I send you the lunch I ate 3 days ago? Would that assist in your prognostications? You owe us and yourself an apology. If an undergrad made such a correlation you would rake them over the coals. You would call them worse names than you've ever called me! What next? "The murderer of Meredith Kercher was a 'denialist.'"? ** Intended to illustrate the absurdity of Dr. T's original statement. Upon reflection, that may be closer to the truth than I prefer...

Thermostat, I find the very use of the term "denialist" diagratory. I prefer the term skeptic. I do not disagree with the scientific "consensus" but I am skeptical about just how much warming has occurred, how much is going to occur and how much of it can be attributed to man. With all of the unknowns in the equation I certainly do not agree with the alarmists on just what to do about it.
The Amanda Knox case is a poor analogy. An Italian jury has found her "guilty" of murder and while I do not know the facts of the case comparing those who accept the verdict with AGW skeptics is in poor taste.
Until the models perform better and all of the feedbacks are better understood I think a healthy dose of skepticism concerning man's impact is a prudent coarse of action.

So you, Dr. T., actually DO "click on" every murder story, every robbery, every assault... absolutely EVERY story, report and video depicting any sort of human suffering? Because if you miss one, or are too tired or otherwise occupied you then are obviously 'insensitive to human suffering.' Lay off the drugs, bro! Obviously you've been exhaling way too much CO2!

If you are sensitive to human suffering think about what he green movement has done, ethanol for fuel increased the grain price and is staving millions of people that would otherwise have had that grain to eat. I wonder when someone will do the figures on how many people the greenies are responsible for starving to death and how many died in the holocaust. Niether record to be proud of I would think, but similar meglomaniacs in charge of the politics

I get a kick out of the use of the word denialism.
When it is pointed out that some of the re-actions to current AGW theory are not coming to be....start cooling, tropical hot spot just to name a couple......the AGW folks deny that they were one of the cornerstones of the AGW theory.
It appears that some are so hung up on the models that they have blinders on....and deny reality.
So, to use the phrase denialism, it looks like it cuts harder to the AGW folks that it does to us skeptics.

Thermostat I know PHD's have trouble distinguishing between the group of people who are skeptical of the claims put forth by Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW) supporters. And the the group of people engage in Holocaust denial-ism. I don't think that is where your problem lies. Or at least I hope not. If that is the case please surrender yourself to the nearest psychiatric institution, because you are barking mad. If you are not barking mad, I suggest that you put your vast academic (Whew almost needed a barf bucket for that one.) training to work and do yourself a favor. Your homework assignment for today is to: 1. Study Psychological Projection and how it applies to your personal situation. Here is a helpful link. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychological_projectionNote: Don't believe everything you read on Wikipedia. 2. Examine the concept behind Noble Cause Corruption, and how it applies the the AGW movement. The next step on your journey is to figure out what category of person you are within the movement. (There are a lot of movements out there that really stink. The occupy wall street movement comes to mind as well as the one everyone is a part of, the bowel movement. But the one that stinks the worst in my opinion is the progressive movement. Progressives are doing more harm to the world than I would have believed possible a decade ago.) Your next assignment is to figure out for yourself where you fit in your movement. The odor varies depending on your political views. Are you/Do you: A. A useful idiot. B. Have enabler personality disorder. C. An accessory. D. Co-conspirator No, there is no E. True believer, I'm sorry we are talking about facts and science, and it is obvious that believer is no longer an option for anyone who is not a drooling idiot. One more thing. Please stop moving the goalposts. This blog: landshape.org/enm/nasa-hathaway-slides-the-goalposts/Climate Science: wattsupwiththat.com/2011/09/24/moncktons-letter-to-the-journal-remote-sensing/Oh yes: Why are you trying to bring Amanda Knox into this conversation. I am aware that she was convicted in an Italian court for murder. I am aware that she won on appeal and is back in Seattle. I know that both sides of the issue have differing views, but I am not privy to all of the details. Does this make me insensitive?
