Knew you couldn't rely on Google;) WSJ: Having the backing of is slightly different to being linked to. The opposition in Egypt has been somewhat fractured. This is an indication that the Muslim Brotherhood see that a coalition led by El Baradi is their best option. The Muslim Brotherhood do not have wide support in Egypt, so the phraseology of what you wrote sounded like it was an attempt to inspire paranoia about a person who has criticised the US in the past.

The Australian Labour Party, ALP, backed the Greens party in the last federal election, by preferences. This green party, with one member in the House of Reps. is dictating policy as with other minorities they hold the balance of power, reversing some pre-election promises of the ALP. Just pointing out the dangers of colluding with extremists, they may finish up with controlling power.

Cherry picking from the Wall Street journal! Here's one from pajamasmedia which basically says the same thing but adds a paranoid spin: The "loose alliance" quote links to an article that does not say anything about there being a loose alliance. pajamasmedia.com/tatler/2011/01/28/elbaradei-friend-of-the-muslim-brotherhood/

Egypt... what a mess!
They've got a population exponential of about 1.02; oil production at parity with consumption; natural gas exports flat for the last five years; food imports at ~40% (or worse); and nothing else to barter with in international trade except tourism (which goes down commensurate with internal strife)...
This will NOT end well.

No, the present Egyptian crisis will not end well. Not only do they lack resources but they lack something else. The support of their fellow Islamic states. Several of those states could afford to help Egypt but they will be lucky to get a sack of wheat from the Islamic world. They will get plenty of explosives, though. And if the West provides food aid it can ill afford at this time, the imams will claim it is proof the West has been subjected, and demand more "tribute" next year. And slaves, of course. www.dailymail.co.uk/.../Men-allowed-sex-slaves-female-prisoners-job--WOMAN-politician-Kuwait.htmlStranger

Apologies if this is the wrong thread: I see from Zero Hedge: www.zerohedge.com/article/rare-e ... -parabolic That rare earth metals have gone parabolic as China corners the market. Prices have risen between 250% - 600% in the last quarter. So what have oxides of Dysprosium, Europium, Neodymium, Lanthanum, got to do with anything? Rare earths are used in wind turbines, hybrid cars and energy saving lightbulbs. Expect more grief ahead.

The scarcity of rare earth metals is temporary. The United States probably has several times the proven resources of China; and there are major deposits in South America and Africa as well.
On the other had, the deliberate slowdown in critical medicine production will have a far greater effect on our futures than a shortage of rare earths. Several of my friends have had the cheap generics they depended on taken off the market, and are unable to afford the "brand name." For at least two, that is a death sentence.

Actually, SCGP, the FDA is more interested in shuffling people off this mortal coil than Big Pharma's profits. Several dozen long time generic medicines have been de-listed, and production facilities for the brand name replacements for the generics have been arbitrarily shut down. The result is a severe and life threatening shortage of several medications. For one example of many, "Dr. Helen," the wife if Glenn Reynolds, the "Instapundit," has had severe difficulty obtaining a medication to keep her cardiac arrhythmia under control. As the T-shirt she is wearing on her blog: www.drhelen.blogspot.com/says, "Death, been there, done that." Indeed. The FDA is trying to make it permanent for a great many of us. It will cut the cost of health care, you know. Stranger

Oh, yeah, they're most definitely looking to increase mortality rates. Just about any way that you want to look at it from (liberal, conservative, libertarian, Rastafarian... etc. ad nauseum) their lips are saying "increase the consumer herd" while their actions are saying "you're done."
Classic example of misdirection to achieve a goal.
