The question becomes, at this early stage of the expected slow rebound, will the black carbon overwhelm the normal forces.

nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/Thermostat: It won't stop melting, as that is what it does during the summer. I was looking at Canadian Ice records from the 30's and 40's. While those records do not reveal the extent of the Labador, etc seas, they do show a rebound cyclically. What has changed now is the black carbon load embedded in the Arctic Ice. How much this load will slow the increase in summer Arctic Ice remains to be seen. I am trying to find dispersion records as of late to see the potential dump of black carbon. sigurdur, Regarding black carbon, I have always agreed with you that it is important. fyi. I saw recently that Beijing's air quality was off the charts.

Published literature shows that Black Carbon is responsible for over 60% of the current ice melt. That 60%, in addition to the cyclical ice patterns of the past 100 years, would indicate a slower rebound than would be expected. sigurdur, Citation of the relevant publications here, if you please. It is simply standard practice.

Thermostat: Can't give you citations concerning Canada. You will have to go to a Canadian Library. The one at the UM, (Univeristy of Manitoba has it).. No tricks confirms Maggelans' OHC concerning the Arctic. notrickszone.com/2013/01/09/ocean-heat-content-based-model-by-german-scientists-shows-continued-global-cooling/We know the ocean is cooling. The largest variable is black carbon and wind activity. In my opinion, the winds will be light in 2013 melt season. This is based on the negative PDO and the La Nada state we are in. The black carbon is the wild card today.

Then you wrote, "We know the ocean is cooling." nonsense

Thermostat: Unless you can verify that ARGO data is not reliable, then the ocean is cooling.
Specifically, the North Atlantic is really cooling.

just to clarify, by "Science" in this particular case I am referring to the concensus understanding of multiple individuals who examine this topic publically and publish their analyses in credible scientific journals.

And you will never convince me that the deep ocean is warming. There has not been validation of that theory, and no known mechanism to provide for that to happen.
Imagination works when you are day dreaming, but it doesn't work for validated science.

If Alfred Wegener was still alive he could tell you numerous stories in relation to consensus.

Thermostat: That's ok.......you are not a scientist, for if you were you would recognize my credentials.
Nice that you come here to learn tho.
