Magellan,
I am curious as to just how you think the Supreme Court decision is an all out assault on religious liberty? Sorry but I don't buy into the nonsense that some how forbidding gay marriage is "protecting traditional marriage". If you don't want to attend a gay wedding, Don't.
As for your bet? Anyone can file a lawsuit for anything so I would be a fool to take the terms of your bet. But I will take the bet that Churches will not lose their tax exempt status in the next twelve months nor will any church be forced to marry a gay couple by the Federal Government in the next 365 days? The ball is back in your court, do we have a bet?
And for the record despite what you may have heard on right wing cable news, there is no war on Christmas or Christianity.

The war is really on American culture. The left would prefer to deny that such a thing actually exists, but it does. American culture is not "corny" or "kitschy" and is just as valid as any of the imported cultures which we are being taught to value and revere. We have been brainwashed to feel embarrassed about anything that looks traditionally American, or that celebrates America's strengths or historical successes, or smacks of American exceptionalism.
I think I will find a 4th of July parade somewhere...

Walnut, I know many liberals that are very proud of American culture and I certainly don't think the right has a monopoly on patriotism. The pictures were taken in my hometown of Friendswood at last year's 4th of July Parade. Not many liberals in my town but I think these photos will be commonplace in small towns and cities across the Country. Makes me feel good...

Well, if we stay off the 24 hour news cycle and get off the Internet and we can see that America is still alive and well. But the agenda of the progressives is real, and their weight in media and the news and popular culture is much larger than seems appropriate considering their fairly small numbers.

The ball is back in your court, do we have a bet? And for the record despite what you may have heard on right wing cable news, there is no war on Christmas or Christianity. Careful, Mr. Magellan--methinks Mr. Glenn is offering up a sucker's bet. If litigation to force churches to perform gay marriages were to begin tomorrow, there is no way it will be resolved in 12 months. As for the Feds Mr. Glenn, what would count as "forced" to you? Would settlement of an IRS threat to revoke tax exempt status count? If so, I'll take your bet. I'm in NOLA, just down I-10 from you. If i win, you can buy me lunch at Galatoire's. If you win I'll come over your way and buy you dinner at Gaido's in Galveston, or anywhere in Houston that floats your boat. I have a different take on Obergefell than do most of the posters here. Like the dissenting Justices, I object more to the reasoning of Justice Kennedy's decision than I do the outcome. If gays want to marry, I could care less. As Mr. Glenn points out, the decision doesn't affect me personally one wit. I think, however, there is great damage done when major cultural shifts are yanked from the political process where the Constitution intends for them to be resolved and ended by and thrust upon a large segment of an often unwilling body politic by judicial fiat. With gay marriage, the political process of its recognition was well underway at the time the Supremes intervened. All save 14 states had politically determined to recognize the practice as of the moment Justice Kennedy's mushy opinion stopped that healthy practice of vigorous debate in its tracks. In my view, like the question of the legality of abortion, the controversy will fester much longer than it needs to because the Court's decision has effectively cut off debate. Kennedy doesn't help things by essentially calling those who disagree, bigots. There's also a danger that, having gotten what they asked for, progressives will be like the mouse who got the cookie, and want more. That more will certainly manifest in a near term effort to run a sword through the wounded now that the main battle is over. We're seeing a little of what the left is capable of in the effort to wash Confederate iconography from our history. Then, there's the potential slippery slope to polygamy (already starting), bestiality, incest and, who knows, maybe necrophilia. Liberty knows no bounds!!

phydeaux,
Knowing how slow our legal system is, yes it was a suckers bet. But so would be placing a wager on the very real possibility that someone will file a suit to strip churches of their tax free status. As I said anyone can file a suit at anytime for just about anything. It does not mean they will win.
I will gladly take your bet (with one clarification) as I love the Vieux Carre and all the fine cuisine that New Orleans has to offer. Since there are a few liberal churches that may simply "choose" to perform Gay weddings IRS coercion has to be proven. I will even extend this bet to include polygamy, bestiality, incest and even necrophilia.
So for the next 365 days if polygamy, bestiality, incest or necrophilia become legal or any federal agency forces or coerces a church to perform a gay marriage against their will I will buy you dinner (not including any bottles of wine say over 100.00 U.S.) at Galatoire's in New Orleans. If none of the above take place you will head east and buy dinner (excluding 100.00+) bottles of wine at Gaido's in Galveston.
It's kind of a win/win except picking up the tab.
Do we have a wager?

We do, sir. I don't think we're going to see legal polygamy, etc. in the next year, but I'm happy to include that possibility. The left is on a roll, and they won't let up on their agenda during the the remainder of Mr. Obama's presidency just in case Ms. Clinton (or that most honest of politicians, Bernie Sanders) doesn't beat whatever RINO the republicans run for president in 2016. By the way, i think we can get some excellent wine for under $100 at whichever establishment serves as the venue for our dinner. One caveat, however. I think I must head west to Galveston from NOLA, unless you want me to cross three oceans as penance for my foolishness. I look forward to meeting you.

Gaido's has both an expensive restaurant and a (still) expensive "grill" restaurant. Only ever ate at the grill part and it is still good. Gulf and bay shrimp about as good as it gets I think.

Gentlemen, gentlemen. I'm quite certain Mr Glenn and I will sup on Oysters Rockefeller and speckled trout covered in crabmeat amid the bright lights and din of Gal's. Warm up the appetite with a Sazerac, perhaps, Mr Glenn?
Would love to see y'all join us!
