There has not been nowhere near a -60C temp in Ukraine, mind you. Please get real, you should have a rough idea of what temps are like, living in Finland now. You were right, my wife told me Siberia had -60C about a month ago, so yes i was wrong to imagine that Moscow is colder than most of Finland. On the topic of getting real, being wrong and living in Finland, have you since had a chance to review the ability of Icebreakers to proceed at constant velocity thru ice? You spent weeks attacking me for trying to persuade you to get real on the subject. Months later you produced a video of Sampo, apparently claiming it can proceed constantly thru 18M of ice! Whereas in reality it can probably manage about 60cm of level ice while barely moving. Otso and Urho class have similar icebreaking abilities to each other and can manage about 1.5M at maximum power at almost no forward velocity. Urho can manage 80cm ice at 8.5Kts, Otso the same ice at 10kts. To get thru level ice thicker than around 1.5M then they have to reverse and charge/ram. Ridges in the Baltic are not solidly frozen more than 50cm under the water line because the combination of snow and air insulates the deeper broken ice that forms the ridge and thru these ridges they can manage about 4M without ramming unless the boat has the bow propellors to move the broken ice from the front to the back by passing the ice under the boat. Your ideas about these boats and the ice conditions in the Baltic were science fiction. How about it Numeruno? How hard can it be for you to get real?

Radiant, so at least the thread advised you on the fact that Ukraine is not in Siberia and v.v. There is a location in Siberia called Oymyakom that has the distinction of being the coldest permanently inhabited place in the world, and their record is -71.2C (1924). They appear to routinely achieve -50C in January. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OymyakonToday's in fact quite a typical situation for January. The Siberian cold has sent some advance troops towards us, but is losing the battle for the moment against the North Atlantic. (weatherunderground.com)

"The Siberian -60C was in early December. "
The average low for Oymyakon in December is -49C (see source above). The record low for December is -62C. (ditto).
It's wonderful that you appreciate whatever your wife tells you. I can see real future for the two of you together,

If the Finnish media is unreliable I cannot do much about it and evidently neither can you or you would not believe Finnish icebreakers are super ships. I wonder from where you got the strange idea that only the media incorrectly talks about ramming?

Radiant, you first said it was you think -60C in Ukraine. I told you no chance it ever was. Then you changed the story to that it was your wife who you that and the place was also changed first into "Russia", and later into Siberia, after I made some suggestions for corrections.
At least I hope your geography is now in a better shape as well as your awareness of what is possible in termS of temps in Eurasia.

The point I was making was that it is colder away from the Sea. Why are you compelled to lecture me when you demonstrated a morons ability to learn about icebreakers? Then you were rambling about fiberglass My so called story has not changed at all in anything that matters. I already agreed i was wrong about the Ukraine. If my wife had told me the -60C was in antarctica i would have told you so. Instead she said it was in Siberia.
