Uh... is this news? I was under the impression we've known solar energy caused turbulence for... decades? Longer?

Uh... is this news? I was under the impression we've known solar energy caused turbulence for... decades? Longer? For some who never leave the safety of the computer room - it is amazing Convection is not something they understand all heat loss in their models is due to radiation from the surface.

It could also explain the 'sudden bee colony deaths' all animals that use the earth's magnetic field to navigate may be caught out by its rapid changes.

I believe we as well are affected if we simply take a look at the progression of events. Seems trite to use movie lines ... but what the hell. "There is a disturbance in the force". And that is about the level that a normal person might deal with. Levels of anti-societal, anti-status quo, anti-order ... is growing. I will call her Aunti Mayhem (in honor of a commercial). Observationaly little doubt in my mind. The first of the commercials in the attached video seems perfectly descriptive of parts of our current experience. Not sure we can really protect the whole system from mayhem. As we've seen in physical phenomena, variance is exploding in fits and spurts. Do these events expand to become the norm for whatever period of time?

THE GREAT QUEBEC BLACKOUT: They call it "the day the sun brought darkness." On March 13, 1989, a powerful coronal mass ejection (CME) hit Earth's magnetic field. Ninety seconds later, the Hydro-Québec power grid failed. During the 9 hour blackout that followed, millions of Quebecois found themselves with no light or heat, wondering what was going on? "It was the biggest geomagnetic storm of the Space Age," says Dr. David Boteler, head of the Space Weather Group at Natural Resources Canada. "March 1989 has become the archetypal disturbance for understanding how solar activity can cause blackouts." spaceweather.com/

I remember when that happened. There was a lot of finger pointing.

This little NASA link, which is dated 2003 and states that it is no longer being updated, points to the fact NASA used to give greater credit to solar influences on climate change. Heck, they even recognise the effects of UV on the atmosphere, and note that UV changes dramatically over the course of a solar cycle. What happened to those enquiring minds? Did they retreat to their cubbyholes in response to the pressure to be Woke? Hell of a way to run a scientific railroad. Many are likely still doing their thing, and as long as they are low key, no one interferes. Get vocal and get cancelled. I was searching for data and effects of UV radiation on climate and changes across 11-year cycles and longer. This is general, and sets the tone in periods leading up to 2003. What has happened since? Stil trying to find monthly or daily SORCE data on UV. earthobservatory.nasa.gov/features/SORCE/sorce_04.phpMeasuring UV & extreme UV earthobservatory.nasa.gov/features/SORCE/sorce_10.phpearthobservatory.nasa.gov/features/SORCE/sorce_09.php
