Looks like Joe may be on to something.
Much of Texas is under a flash flood watch today. We received 1.5" inches in one storm this afternoon with strong possibilities for the next 3 days. I've seen totals of 7+ inches in some of the areas that need it most.

Mr. Bastardi is looking like a guru now. Lots of Texas is getting well needed rain again today. And South Texas is getting really wet in a good way... This is a picture of the Frio river in South Texas. (Where George Strait learned to swim in his country classic "All My X's Live In Texas") going over its banks for the first time in a very, very long time.

[ But his forecast for the winter for the US is very cold let's hope the EPA has not managed to close down to many generating plants. Please, where did you find his winter forecast?[/quote] I don't think he has come out with it yet. But he has mentioned a cold winter several times in his weekly updates on the weather bell website. If you go to weatherbell.com he puts out a free summary every saturday. Well worth the 7 to 10 minutes watching the video.

I don't think he has an "official" forecast yet, but he is thinking cold, because he doesn't think the warm sst off of Alaska will go away and he thinks the blocking around Greenland will also stay or be back. I'm also guessing that he is starting to think the warm AMO phase doesn't have long to live.

nAnd only 2 weeks until midsummer. One of the first indications of an approaching ice age is apparently ice/snow remaining throughout summer where it would normally melt.

While we are talkng of snow and ice remaining in mid-summer...
Walkers' warning: it's still winter on top of Ben Nevis
"Walkers heading to Britain's highest mountain have been warned of a surprising amount of late-lying and potentially dangerous snow.
With summer now here and the longest day fast approaching, more and more people will be setting themselves up for the challenge of climbing Scotland’s highest mountain.
However winter is still lingering on the roof of Scotland.
While it may be T-shirt and shorts weather down in Fort William, up high it’s a very different story. Last winter Scotland experienced exceptionally high levels of snow fall in the mountains and, with mid-summer’s day approaching, a surprising amount of that snow still remains. This means anyone heading up Ben Nevis will be walking on snow covered terrain, in some places up to a metre in depth still."
Remember UK was meant to have had a warm (very) wet winter.

It's looking like Joe is right on the money. I've been working in the Texas panhandle for the last week and it has stormed everynight. So much so that I had to get a 4 wheel drive truck to pull my 2WD truck off a flooded and muddy location yesterday. Currently it is 59 degrees with winds out of the north gusting to 42mph. Feels more like late March than June 9th. Storms were so severe last night we were considering hunkering down in the storm shelter on location.

On Sunday, the Cairns Ironman triathlon was run.[Cairns-Port Douglas location.]
This is in tropical North Queensland, normally the dry season.
Port Douglas had about 100mm of rain, and the coldest day for 50 years.
A friend of mine entered the triathlon at age 66.
BTW the competition consisted of 3.8 km [rough] sea swim * 180 km [wet] bike ride * 40km [wet] run.
Lots of things want to eat you on the sea leg [crocs, sharks] or sting you [box and irakunji jellyfish]. The latter are the most dangerous.
A number of riders suffered hypothermia.
I am awed my friend came third in his age group.
