[ Snip ] I'm buying long with the kid's piggy bank. Bacon futures? Yes, But short on Leftie's Pig Futures. A well balanced portfolio. When pork futures go up, pig futures go down.

Just realized yesterday my Bosc pear and Gravenstein apple have not a single fruit this season. Weird. Were the flowers damaged by frost code??

I am glad I live in a decent climate. Middle of winter [such as it is], and I am still eating four types of fruit from the garden.
Apples, persimmons, grapefruit and imperial mandarins.

My pineapples are doing well and it looks like a good crop of bananas too along with the more regular green and red peppers of various types.

I am glad I live in a decent climate. Middle of winter [such as it is], and I am still eating four types of fruit from the garden. Apples, persimmons, grapefruit and imperial mandarins. I was thinking the same thing last year. Peppers, tomatoes and lots of lemons on the tree. Then in January the one and only Blue Norther of the winter came through. Blew the tarps I used to cover my garden off and froze everything. The lemon tree tried to come back but I am afraid the last few leaves fell off and it is time get the chainsaw out and remove whats left. Two nights of sub 26 F temps and presto garden wiped out and a lemon tree I planted from seed about 10 years succumbed. The odd thing was the lemon tree survived worse in previous winters. I think the extremely mild temps all winter prior to the killer freeze had this poor tree tricked to thinking it was spring. In any case its dead.

Our garden, juneberry bushes, blue berries and apple trees were all decimated by a hail storm on June 9th. My crops were as well, reseeded 100's of acres.
Will require a long warm fall, but had to at least try get a crop. As far as the garden? a goner for the season.
