Glenn: You could just as well be in ND. At least you wouldn't have the wild swing up in temperature. You could just enjoy the crispness of the air 24/7.

Sigurdur, The last time I was in ND we did have wild swings in temperature. From 15 above to minus 23! I like the Texas wild swings better than the ones in ND. But I have nothing but fond memories of the months and months I spent up there working. Everything's great but that whole state income tax thing you have going on up there. I think I paid for several miles of the roads to be repaired up there over the years.

See, the 15F to -23F is still pretty crisp fresh air! (disclaimer) The 80F doesn't sound too bad for a break tho!)

Contrary to my representations to Mr. Moboy, we did get a hard freeze in NOLA last night, and a second is likely tonight. When I walked the dog this morning, there were frozen puddles on the sidewalks and streets. More troublesome for me, I told the wife before we retired last night that we didn't need to bring in the tender plants from the porch, or wrap the outdoor faucets. My laziness in this regard has cost me dearly in "Marital Game Show Points." I fear the deficit thus accumulated may prove impossible to erase in the coming year. Oh well. It was nice to feel what passes down here for "cold." Like Mr. Glenn, we will be in the high 70s next weekend. I hope the temperatures hold through the end of February, so we can have our first warm and dry Carnival in about five years!

Oh oh. I feel for you Mr. Phydeaux2363! The sad thing is, those wilted leaves will be a constant reminder of the established point deficit.
At least you can tell her that it won't make any difference tonight honey if I cover the former tender plants. On 2nd thought, take her out to supper!

Ok, another cold day in the office. Low wind, sub zero temps, and no heat. Time to totally get rid of "off peak".
Lovely!

Anyone have another surprise in store for us?

Frost is a form of low input pruning.
Take the opportunity to discover the more resilient examples.

From Joe Bastardi: Old fashioned coast to coast classic winter will include a January thaw but an American pie February. Listen to the song.
For those who don't want to do that....
/~o A long long time ago I can still remember how That music used to make me smile And I knew if I had my chance That I could make those people dance And maybe they'd be happy for a while
But February made me shiver With every paper I'd deliver Bad news on the doorstep I couldn't take one more step /~o
