If Kavanaugh falls we will never see a conservative confirmed again. This sickening affair is an inflection point in American Governance.

Blust, I'm not so sure if he fails we won't see another appointment, I'm thinking there is a chance he may get approved by a single vote which would leave Judge Barrett to fill a hole if Trump is able to appoint a replacement for Ginny. If he (Kavanaugh) doesn't get approved then expect Trump to quickly nominate perhaps Barrett. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amy_Coney_BarrettCode, I applaud your optimism. My belief is that if the left succeeds in ‘this they will never ever relent in their effort to destroy anyone they don’t agree with. They will rely on the rule of the mob to get their way.

As we have the current news from the Senate committees.
Many years ago - when I used to ride in trains that were of the 'Hogwarts Express' vintage, British Railways had carriages that had no corridor but individual compartments with seating areas of around 16 - 8 aside; and each carriage would have a Ladies only compartment.
A friend of my father's who was a senior teacher and normally dressed formally (i.e. looked rich) was in a smoking section and enjoying a cigar on his way home. The train was about to depart when a young lady ~20 years old, entered the compartment. After the train set off, the young lady said to my father's friend - "give me twenty five pounds or I will say that you assaulted me." He said - "No, I will not give you any money". The 'discussion' threats and refusals went on for the next ~10 minutes or so until the the train pulled into the next station. At which point the woman tore her blouse open and banged her head on the window frame then as the train was almost stopped pulled the 'communication cord' (an emergency brake in each compartment). The train slammed to a halt and a rush of people made their way to the compartment where the 'tearful' young lady claimed sobbingly that she had been assaulted... My father's friend said loudly - "before anything else is said - please would everyone look at my left hand?" He was holding his cigar that now had around 2 inches of ash balanced on it. He said, "note the ash - it would not be possible for me to have assaulted her as she has claimed." At that point the 'tearful' young lady's tears stopped and she ran off.
While I understand the #metoo claims - things like that story, and others in my personal experience, have reduced my ready acceptance of such claims.

Mike Pence Announces Cold War IIThe administration is orchestrating a far-reaching campaign against China. By Walter Russell Mead Oct. 8, 2018 6:58 p.m. ET www.wsj.com/articles/mike-pence-announces-cold-war-ii-1539039480?mod=hp_opin_pos2"Donald Trump has already used this to threaten and impose tariffs and Mr. Pence warned that even higher tariffs are on the way...Both China and the U.S. are likely to move quickly, unpredictably and disruptively as they struggle for advantage; Wall Street should brace itself for further shocks...Replacing the North American Free Trade Agreement, reshaping the Supreme Court, and launching a new Cold War in the same week is quite the trifecta. America may or may not be on the road to greatness under Mr. Trump, but it is certainly going somewhere, and at an accelerating pace." The thing is that China gets its supplies and goods from the other countries around the South China Sea and then builds them into manufactured goods. The Trump Administration while raising tariffs on Chinese goods to match the tariffs they impose on US goods, is also talking to the smaller countries that are in China's supply chain to obtain the goods at source and manufacture at those countries or in the USA. This would isolate China and their supply and market could dry up concurrently. As shown by the USMCA deal the idea is not to have tariffs but remove them, they are merely a means to an end. China could end up in a really bad place and lose a lot of face. It would make more sense to deal now than wait until they are not necessary for US trade.
