Is there a way to make the quotes a bit larger? They seem awfully small to my poor eyes.hilbert Yes. Around the quoted text, use the "A" tag-with-the-vertical-double-headed-arrow and set "size=2" to "size=3" or more. Sorry, it does not seem to work within "Code" tag (e.g., # tag). Sorry, but what is a vertical double-headed arrow? Thanks! When you reply, above the text entry box is a palette of tools. The penultimate button on the top row is a text sizing HTTP code and is an upper case "A" and a two headed vertical arrow. When you want to use it select the text you wish to resize then click on the button. You will get a start and end SIZE code - 1 is smallest 3 largest the code embedded when you click on the button is the neutral 2.

Quote Date: October 31, 2007 Duluth, Minn. -- Like ice sheets melting in the Arctic, Lake Superior has begun showing some of the world's most tangible evidence of global warming, according to scientists gathered in Duluth this week. The lake's average winter ice cover is 50 percent smaller than it was 100 years ago, a study found. Since 1980, the water on average in summer has warmed almost 2 degrees Fahrenheit per decade, which is twice as fast as the air has warmed. During that time, wind speeds in the middle of the giant lake also have risen steadily. // From: Star Tribune (Minneapolis, MN) | Date: October 31, 2007| Author: Oakes, Larry Hi Larry - you out there? till working for the Star Tribune? And: Lake Superior in US Losing Ice Cover Fast, Signaling Global Warmingwww.medindia.net/news/view_news_main.asp?x=19839I guess we can (by corollary) now conclude: Lake Superior in US gaining Ice Cover Fast, Signaling Global Cooling - either this is true, or the first statement was patently false!! The NWS said: “IF ARCTIC AIR DOES NOT RETURN IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS, it is likely that this will be the day of maximum ice cover on Lake Superior…..”
You gotta love that government-generated C.Y.A!
Maybe the fierce winds from the old-fashioned blizzard coming mid-week will break up some of those flows, but the DIRECT discharge of Arctic air following, will not help the situation no doubt.
Also….and interestingly….no mention from the NWS on what is statistically is a TWENTY-year event, has now occurred TWICE in the last SIX.
Anything that shows evidence of global cooling…even anecdotal….is downplayed and suppressed.
But U.S. government employee James Hansen has no problem showing up at a AGW protest in a blinding March snowstorm, and Gore has no problem shoving out his greedy hands to accept an UNDESERVED, ILL-GOTTEN Scripps prize. (I thought it might snow when Gore got the prize in sunny San Diego.)
Amazingly, the “evidence” of the “stories” in our public science community that get the news spotlight, point one way…. while “MOTHER SUPERIOR”, her icy cloak, and other legion indicators in nature, point the other.
Nature does not lie! And it’s not nice to fool Mother Nature.
And she is making her opinion known what she thinks of the sham science of AGW.

Try pressing Control+ on your keyboard for a magnified view while you're reading. (IE7)
Or you could use the menu bar: View -> Text Size -> Larger

The temperature forecast for Marquette, MI, near Lake Superior, for the next week is a few highs a bit above freezing, but lows down in the single digits (Fahrenheit) towards the end of the week.

Lake Superior is still almost frozen over (depending upon how one interprets the blue color). The weather above freezing should cool a bit, especially towards the end of the week, so more ice might form.

I think that Marquette, Michigan is supposed to get down to -1 F tonight, with two more days of below freezing highs, but after that it will start warming up during the day. I suspect that the ice on Lake Superior has seen (or will see, in the next two days) its peak for this year, barring an unusual cold snap. It was a very good year for ice, though.

In the meantime, here is a picture of the eastern Great Lakes from today. Lake Superior information doesn't seem to be available, I don't know why.

Sorry, I guess that didn't include Lake Ontario or part of Lake Huron. There will always be chuckleheads out ice fishing that require rescuing even into April. It happens every year, but nowadays they get charged for it if there are warnings issued.
