Actually the best argument for humans causing climate change is that the climate is changing and nobody has shown why. That argument was in fact used by the IPCC in AR3 as I recall. The best argument that we are not is that climate is always changing and that it has changed as much as fast in the recent past (first half of 20th century) while emissions have gone up more than an order of magnitude. You know mainstream science has a problem when they have to resort to polling of science papers to make a case. Science funding is not a democratic process thus a poll of science papers is like doing a poll of just CNN contributors.

Strangely enough I was thinking about that today when I saw this temperature vs CO2 chart. Don't show them the chart first - draw a vertical 'temperature line from the peak temperatures shown down to zero - like an unscaled thermometer. NO temperature marks. Tell them that the vertical line is the temperature scale with the top being the highest average global atmospheric temperature; all they have to do is show where on that vertical line they think Earth's current global average atmospheric temperature. After they have done that show them that the current global average atmospheric temperature is actually very close to the bottom. - Tell them we are actually in an ice age but in an interglacial. Normally as shown the Earth is a LOT warmer and before humans were around to make the climate change. Then show them the full graph and show how there is a feedback that apart from some jumps keeps the top atmospheric temperature constant - probably the hydrologic cycle. Have them also note that there is NO relationship between CO2 levels and temperature. Point out that most evolution and plant development took place with much higher C02. Show the times temperatures increased when CO2 was low and decreased when CO2 was high - no correlation at all Then show them this: as a lesson in correlation not meaning causation I am sure there is more
