You'll never get out of Paris vertical. I always tried to avoid staying in Paris. I have no idea what the attraction is - it is full of French (and now African/Libyan camp sites in every median) Went there on business once - so the primary attraction was keeping my job. :-) However I must say the Louvre is awesome. Skip the mob by the Mona Lisa.

Skip the mob by the Mona Lisa. I was surprised by Mona. Ya needed a telescope from 10 feet to see her. Leonardo was having a "small" day. I was impressed with how the French managed to both "have" their Napolean (suspended in space in the middle of a dome) and "ensure" he didn't climb down and mount a horse again. Even he should be impressed with how they managed to flank him on all sides. Other than that, our Aussie cousins have their coathanger, and our Gaulic cousins have Mr Effiel's tower. We stayed in a dump fronting the Seine. I was not overly impressed. The stone beehive cities of Liguria were much more interesting.

Yes and if you _must_ stay in Paris go to one of the Campanile chain hotels close to 'Place des Vosges' a 'hidden' square with restaurants and picnic areas to eat the local Falafel. What I liked there the French generally have an 'anti-tourist' approach (like Cornwall when they first lifted lockdown) but in the restaurants at Place des Vosges you can have a ' croque Monsieur' next to someone having a full out steak dinner. Unlike some restaurants where eating something simple and cheap is not welcome. There is considerable competition of course from the falafel shops selling picnic food to eat in the square which probably is the reason. I found that Place des Vosges was where 'real French' went rather than the pretentious anti-tourist French.
