Well this is now three Summers in a row that the Jetstream has been in the southern UK or below. Normally at this time of year the Jetstream should be between the north of Scotland and Iceland. All during the Solar Minimum as well I think that three years in a row is long enough for a trend what do you think? ;D

We had a great week for barbecues at the beginning of June (just before my house got hit with 100mm or so of rain in a day on June 8th - 2 months' worth apparently). We had another great week for barbecues a couple of weeks ago or so. Other than that it's been unbelievably miserable.
I'm looking forward to the excuses as much as you. But we're only half way through summer so far...
It's weather. I doubt it has anything to do with the solar minimum. Is there any evidence to the contrary in the UK summer rainfall record?
My answer is not available as an option in the poll. It's "I b****y well hope not".

This summer in the southern UK is more and more like the ones I remember from when I t'were a lad.... Nice weather May/June (always when we were still at school...) Turning to sunshine and showers (often heavy) in July and August (when we were on holiday...) Nice September, drier although cooler. Be interesting to see if this follows that pattern. Back then it was declared as due to the position (or not) of the Azores Hig Pressure - now its the Jetstream, although I believe its basically the same thing in practice.

The jetstream across the continental U.S.A. and out over the Atlantic is a LOT further south than normal. It would appear that the polar vortex has enlarged to the South. Whether this has anything to do with the previous SSW or is an effect of the current solar minimum is open to debate. It is having a considerable effect on the weather in North America and in Europe.
