Checking U.S. records of last 24 hours, there are plenty of cold records, including Bayview Model Basin, Idaho, just to your east, Lamont, with a morning low yesterday of 35 degrees. The former record was 38 degrees. This is a rural station, and thus by definition a more reliable weather event than the Seattle record -- set at an airport in a growing heat island.
If the northwest heat wave were as significant as starting a thread for it would suggest, then there would be dozens of new records at rural stations.
Don't get me wrong, it's an impressive piece of weather, but no more so than the exceptional cold and snow y'all went through last December.

I am in my shorts at 61 latitude. Yes it was 3 and 4 C overnight here in June. So far the locals think i am a bit odd to be even mentioning cooling. ;D

Quite a significant event....
But how do you think it compares to the record cold month of July much of the Midwest just experienced? Multiple locations around the Midwest have just recorded their coldest July ever.

Quite a significant event.... But how do you think it compares to the record cold month of July much of the Midwest just experienced? Multiple locations around the Midwest have just recorded their coldest July ever. I need to know more to understand what is happening. There are over 5000 daily temperatures recorded for that particular USA series. So there are 365*5000 temperatues and dates. From my brief observations since July 18th there are always hot and cold records being broken for every day of the year. And it appears that if you plot out all of the cold records as a minimum and all of the hot records as a maximum that current temperatures are towards the hot end. On the other hand there does appear to be a cool source of air moving down thru canada and into the US midwest that might mean cooling of the whole planet if the cooling persists. And yes then we have to get into the issues regarding maintenance of temperature stations and all of the stuff that Wuwt is raising which to me seems relevant and worth knowing about. For example i found it interesting/amusing that he is saying the current recommended paint for the stations majoryly changes the IR absorbing abilities of the boxes compared to ye olde white wash that was earlier recommended! As they say 'it is hard to make this kind of stuff up' ;D But meanwhile we still need to be observant of the science and realities rather than our political aspirations and desires
