I am visiting the USA at present. I am surprised to see the media giving Sarah Palin a difficult time because she doesn't think global warming is "man made"
What is most surprising is the tone of some of the comments. They almost suggest that scepticism of AGW is equivalent to belief in a flat earth. "Only a Hockey Mom from Alaska can still believe AGW is not taking place"

It's been a cold summer in Alaska--it's pretty easy for her to not believe in global warming.

pretty much anybody who is subjected to coverage by the media that does not agree with the "consensus" on global warming is either considered to be on the oil company payrolls or a flat earther by the media/econazis

They greatly overestimate their importance.

It is encouraging to see that some sense "truth" despite all external input. Perhaps our last, best hope for survival of civilization itself. Certainly what has just happened in the UK, the place where there has been the BEST recognition that AGW is a sham, is discouraging. And, forgive me, people on BOTH sides who argue that we should FIX the climate... perhaps there is no hope...

As soon as Governor Palin was announced as VP candidate the American left lost what little minds they had. One guy started a clearly marked, note headline, parody at: unbearablebobness.typepad.com/my_weblog/2008/08/governor-sarah-palin-quotes.htmland every left hand threaded wingnut in American took him seriously. Including CNN, which paid plenty for a photoshopped mash up that was supposedly a real picture of the Governor. Then came the parody busters, like Charles Martin's list of lies, here: explorations.chasrmartin.com/2008/09/06/palin-rumors/Of course, the rumors just keep on popping up. I counted more than a dozen before my first coffee break and there were many more. So many I tired of counting them. Now, these schlimazels are the dimboxes who deny global cooling. And who get downright shirty when you point to the evidence that CO2 cannot cause global warming.

A woman, anti AGW, hockey mom, potential VP.....Its a bold marketing campaign.... Especially when teamed up with Grandad who fought in the war......
Its a tidy package for citizens who vote for people not policies.
Obama as a package is also very presentable, but I wonder if he should have taken Hillary as his running mate.

Kaz, you are far enough removed to maintain some semblance of objectivity. Between Obama and Palin, one is a sexy piece of eye candy. The other kills her own food. For a less than objective but amazingly accurate comparison, try this link: wolfhowling.blogspot.com/2008/08/palin-in-comparison.html

I think it is appropriate to be talking about Sarah Palin on this forum. She is not weather, but a true climate change.
Go Sarah!

slh, Mayhap we overestimate the triumph of intellect over emotion. Nah. I'm well aware of the power of emotion. But I also think most of the emotional energy is on the side of Sarah Palin right now. The media would like to believe they can change that, but people are not just sitting by waiting for a sound byte to make up their minds for them the way that so many in the News Media think they are. I don't think the media has as much power as they think they do to form opinions. They might get away with it for a time, but people move on.

pretty much anybody who is subjected to coverage by the media that does not agree with the "consensus" on global warming is either considered to be on the oil company payrolls or a flat earther by the media/econazis The problem with the normal AGW argument that 'Palin is paid by big oil' is that she also shafted the cozy oil company cartels set up in Alaska, hit them with a windfall tax which she then had distributed directly to everyone in Alaska. This is just one of the problems that her opponents have to deal with. Apart from her favorite meal being moose stew

Not having much to do this afternoon, I let my wife persuade me into driving the 15 minutes over to the Carson City Pavillon, to have a look see/hear from the horses mouth so to speak. So we attended the inaugeral stump speech of candidate Palin. It was an auspicious start, as my wife, who is far more politically savy than moi, pointed out, she could easily wreste the female vote energy from the disgruntled Hillary fans on the other side of the political divide. We saw a lot of politically charged up female Nevadans taking it all in and becoming emboldened. When I learned that she could field dress a moose, I was suitably impressed plus she wants to drill ANWR! To top the day off, I bought a "STOP GLOBAL WHINING" political button.
