"This is a Liberal leader bucketing Liberals," he said.
"They've had enough of him and his performance over the weekend.
"People in the street are stunned that in the protection of his own position and his own philosophy view of how to fix a problem he's been bagging the hell out of our people." OK, the meaning is somewhat indicated by the context, but, please, what means: "bucketing" "bagging" Thanks! Bucketing & bagging both approx. = disparaging / criticising (nastily) "tipping the bucket (of excrement)" Don't think either is specifically Aussie? Sure you won't emigrate, Hilbert? Thanks! I've liked Australia ever since I did a report on it in 6th grade. After many years, I finally visited (Brisbane & Canberra), but it was work-related. I hope to return and see more and at greater length.

Ms Gillard would not comment on the likelihood of the Government calling a double dissolution if the Coalition failed to support the legislation. "double dissolution"? Both houses of parliament are put up for election: In the US, that would be the equivalent of the election of the whole of Congress and the Senate all at once - In Aussie constitution, it allows for an important issue to got to the people if it can't pass both houses. Going to the people--does that mean that there's actually a referedum? Can only one house be dissolved? Thanks!

A problem that we have in the US--Much bad law can, in effect, be put in place by regulatory agencies, largely independent of what Congress decides. The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency, an executive branch regulatory agency) has decided that CO2 emissions (not yet including exhalations) can be regulated. From the fact that average person exhale almost the same amount of CO2 as average car and we are around 6.7 bln and cars only 0.8 bln, we can all soon expect taxes on our breathing. sport activities, hard work or sex will be taxed more vigorouse because in these activities we produce at least triple ammounts of CO2 than when we are lazy like government's burocrats. Not to mention 1,5 bln cows and each produce a lot more CO2 than man and a looooot more CH4 he he. Funny world for our children if these stupid legislations go through. I bombard 2 forums in my country with facts on Climategate and "science" behind these modern comunist/faschist group of polititians & "scientists". A lot of response, but almost silence in media around EU. Terrible.

So, is it likely that the house will keep passing this?

Are Senators essentially required to vote as a party block?

So, is it likely that the house will keep passing this? No, as the Liberals and Independents have majority in the Senate. But if they delay or fail to pass the legislation, then the Labour Government can fight an election of both houses. This would be fascinating, as the Election would be Post Copenhagen & Climate gate - The issues would be clear - Liberty or Scientific elitist Tyranny. Personally, I think Labour will be smart, and hold off another year in the hope that 2010 will be a hot/dry year with drought & fires. I think they lose either option.

No, Abbot has always been the skeptic "Climate change is crap" is his quote -
but he was prepared to go along with the ETS as a prudential thing to do. Then came the CRU Fraud, and the proverbial hit the fan.
The Libs are tightly split, so it will still be messy. He has to hold them together.
At present, they are hanging out their dirty laundry for all to see.

Abbott is still having an each-way bet in interviews, not committing to "the science is NOT settled" view. Don't worry, I will be writing to him .... Beats me why there aren't a few politicians around the Globe coming out after CRU. I guess they worry about opinion polls?

They need to educate themsleves - they are only now coming into the light, so they are still squinting! ;D

It starts with a trend of one. Maybe we can have a trend here in the U.S.
