We are a community of thoughtful individuals. And good researchers.
I ask for your help in identifying climate torts or the possibility/probability of same. This is not a grant application, or spam for contributions to Nigerians needing to wrangle millions through the offices of you yourself.
The toxic torts (see endangerment finding) are going to happen now anyway. Up front, I am interested in getting in on the action. I am just now compiling the expanding list of legal avenues of attack, and I did mention we could use a thread devoted to what will almost certainly evolve into " the AGW rubber meets the cold, hard asphalt of the legal road." We will see how much mileage it has in it.
With your help.
So an open call to post what you find here. At best I might net some billable time for litigation support. A couple hundred $k, here and there, for which I would get just salary. But the entertainment value might be priceless!
So please, dig and post. With the release of FOI2009.zip, this is just good, clean fun......... ;D

Wasn't Warwick Hughes planning on suing? I know there was a guy going after NASA too.

Here's a good place to keep track of such things. Get an account for full access. law.lexisnexis.com/practiceareas/Environment-Climate/Climate-ChangeEnvironmental/Climate-Change-Litigation-ChartContains a link to the chart, but I'll dupe it here: www.climatecasechart.com/One of the more interesting parts of this concerns SEC and corporate reporting requirements relative to climate change, which you will find reference and links to on page 10 of the above chart. This has been ongoing for about 3 years. Such reporting requirements (as always ) increase the cost of doing business for no discernible gain, even though some investors will and do base their decisions on such things. I expect that there will be some litigation in the near future as a result of Climategate, since the basis for much of this rulemaking is traceable to the IPCC, et al. Also www.abanet.org/environ/climatechallenge/overview.shtmlPS: Not yet litigation, but keep an eye on Agriculture in regards to any upcoming climate legislation. Excerpt: Still, agricultural groups have largely rejected the overall climate bill, and Peterson has been criticized by conservatives for his work to help get the bill passed. MESSAGE FROM FARMERS "The message I'm getting from agriculture on that is they don't want anything to do with it," Peterson said. "They are not sold on this at all. I tried to carve out a place for them, and it hasn't gone over too big."
