... when there is nothing interesting on TV you watch reruns. Same idea can be applied to solar observation. A few months ago I stumbled upon the NASA IMAGE (Imager for Magnetopause-to-Aurora Global Exploration) spacecraft site, which was launched in 2000 and went silent in 2005 pluto.space.swri.edu/image/index.htmlThere I discovered that the Earth emits its own 304A EUV signal. which was detected and imaged by this spacecraft. This emission is generated by the ionization of the helium in the magnetosphere, generating that familiar spectral line at 304 angstroms. (Except the magnetosphere researchers refer to it as 30.4 nm and color-code it in blue instead of orange) pluto.space.swri.edu/image/plasmasphere_images.htmlHere are some movies (reruns!) of these 30.4 nm emissions. pluto.space.swri.edu/image/EUV_movies.html[edit: more Earth EUV Imagery data and info here: euv.lpl.arizona.edu/euv/]Attachments:

... and in case that's not enough excitement for you, there's a new region appearing on the NE limb which looks very active in EUV and Xray. But just a dim plage with small spots in visible light. Is this possibly a manifestation of the L&P effect? Attachments:

Fair seeing today from athens after the yesterday snowstorm. The sun remain injured at the southwestern area of the explode dark magnetic filament. The regions 1131 and 1133 remain with sunspots but they arrived to the western limb. www.solar-007.eu/

The Google translator of course is not perfect, but it does a good job.
It seems to have had difficulty with this sentence, which is talking about the new region on the NE limb: "A new chromosfairikos torches LIPON enter from the east of which, if we look at the brilliance we see that is important in a large width at the surface."
'chromosfairikos' ? We're familiar with the Greek term 'chromos' which means color and I recognize 'fairikos' as being related to 'pharos' (e.g. Pharos the ancient Lighthouse at Alexandria). So is that perhaps the Greek word for 'sunspot' or 'active region'?
What is LIPON?
Thanks, John/af4ex

I have translation in my site buddy.
At the left side under main menu.
I`ll try to give smaller sentense for better translation to the future.
Chromosfairikos torce = chromospheric faculae
Lipon = well, then.
thank you.

For some reason it doesn't work here, but I have some firewall issues, probably works OK for everyone else. > Chromosfairikos torce = chromospheric faculae OK, I guessed 'sunspot', so that ends my career as a translator of scientific Greek. Thanks

Bz is starting to swing about, mostly North for now, and the Wind Speed is picking up.
It will only be a matter of time before Bz heads South and KER-POW !

Thanks chromo - sfairikos = chromo - sphere

Yes, that's the correct way to parse it.
I was thinking: chromos (color) + faros (light, beacon) => (solar entity now appearing over the NE limb) => sunspot!

SpaceWeather is reporting that the "3-way" CME I observed this morning on SOHO was indeed a "triple eruption", 3 independent CME's occurring within an hour of each other. Compute the odds on that. www.spaceweather.com/No fallout towards Earth is expected.

Bob, you were right, Bz is negative and the Canadian magnetometers are starting to show some magnetic activity up North (since 1500Z actually). Actually we were quite fortunate. Sunday Morning the B z was almost -10 typically at -5 or higher magnetic fields connect. Right now things are quiet but we should be receiving another set of gusts from a second coronal hole in the next day or 2.
