We want a X-flare now. I think we have waited quite long enough now. Preferably a X-48 with a ginormous cme associated. Are people posting in this forum in astronomical time? One post every 2 billion years? ;D

What is happening to the protons right now?

It's most likely from the small M-level x-ray event from earlier today. There's a small chance that it's particles accelerated in a shock wave propagating outwards from the sun, but I think it's a little early for that phenomenon if it's from that halo CME a few hours ago.

I miss some experts divulgative general comments on the progression of this cycle... As we are approaching to maximuns, and cycle seems to progress always performing lower than forecasted...

Dr. Svalgaard has been commenting occasionally at Anthony Watts' WattsUpWithThat.com blog.

janjanssens, thanks a lot for both links, I´ve just been reading a couple of articles and checking the web-site and that´s exactly what I was looking for, your comments on updated solar dynamics for this cycle are very useful and instructive. Added to favourites!

Sunspot # 78?!? I'm sorry, which star exactly, because the local one is about half of that, even if you count the pores.

I am sure Mr Maunder or Dalton would never have seen these spots those years? Any way, does not matter how they count anymore, we are entering a cold period and this cycle could end December 21st and for all we know a bigger cycle we cannot see yet. We must take into consideration that the Mayas only worshipped the sun and therefore were very knowledgeable on the solar cycles and everything that goes with the sun? I do prepare for the worst to come and would suggest people from the far north to migrate south!! (-: Just my thoughts......

Some expert around please, take a look at following article (sorry for it is in Spanish) . It comments on new scientific support for the idea that planets could influence sun´s magnetic activity through cycles lasting for 88, 104, 150, 208, 506, 1000 or 2200 years. It refers to an article appeared in digital edition of Astronomy and Astrophysics. Results are from a multinational research team USA-SPAIN-SWITZERLAND and the article names J. A. Abreu and J. Beer del ETH from Zurich... Someone knows more about this? I find it most interesting... Please check www.agenciasinc.es/Noticias/Los-planetas-podrian-influir-en-la-actividad-magnetica-del-Sol
