I often see the sunspot data, but for some strange reason everyone just published the latest cycle so I can't see how this compares to previous ones.
I would like to quickly create a sunspot graph with sunspots per month in a format I could update using new data as it becomes available.
I've found a 5M file with masses of data on individual sunspots, but I would need to do an awful lot of work to make that usable and it must be available out there somewhere.
Can anyone tell me where.
PS. I tried searching this site, and internet.

Also, there are several discussions on how sunspot numbers are calculated, as often they do have different methods. HEre is one discussion: arxiv.org/ftp/astro-ph/papers/0702/0702068.pdfThere are also others at leif.org. Finally, how can find several historical records such as the Rome sunspot number. Finally, depending on what you are looking at sunspot area or 10.7 flux might be a better proxy than number.

They have daily, monthly and yearly data. sidc.oma.be/sunspot-data/Note the caution when comparing sunspot cycles as formulated by Leif Svalgaard in previous threads. Monthly sunspot area data can be found at solarscience.msfc.nasa.gov/greenwch.shtml My SC24 Tracking page contains links to data-sources for a variety of sunspot-related indices users.telenet.be/j.janssens/SC24web/SC24.html#Links

I would also like to know why is it that everytime a new sunspot develops, it rotates from the non-facing side of the sun? Most of the new sunspots lately never develops on the earth facing side? Any reason for this?

This is not the case. Have a look at some SDO videos and you will see that a lot of sunspot groups pop-up at "our" side of the sun.
