UK is having the same issues.. " A gas-fired power plant at Little Barford, Bedfordshire, and then one of the world’s largest offshore wind farms, at Hornsea in the North Sea, saw units trip offline within roughly two minutes of each other, according to National Grid’s initial assessment. This caused automatic systems to kick in that cut electricity supplies to parts of the country but averted a wider shutdown. That allowed full power to be restored within an hour rather than days."www.ft.com/content/2db14892-bc3f-11e9-b350-db00d509634eImagine a multi-day power cut affecting a major city, New York, London, Los Angeles..... after 24 hours no radio, cellphone, TV, shops and food supplies hit. I know some boroughs of those cities that would have a total breakdown in law and order

It seemed a bit patchy as to where power went down.

I would have thought that this would make more news. Slowly but surely the USA will be running at a profit - the only real way to eventually reduce the deficit.

A loophole in a result from classical electromagnetism could allow a simple device on the Earth’s surface to generate a tiny electric current from the planet’s magnetic field. physics.aps.org/articles/v9/91

"To Fight The Coronavirus, The World Returns To Fossil Fuels
Entire nations have put their lives on lockdown as we try to “socially distance” ourselves to prevent the spread of COVID-19. In these unprecedented times, the world has returned to basic truths that manifest themselves when the price of ideology is too high. One of those involves fossil fuels. In an instant, sometimes without realizing it, the world has demanded fossil fuel products, and few concerns have been raised about their carbon footprint. Pragmatism trumps idealism every single time when the chips are really down.

So the penetration of China into everything has led to the virtue signalling politicians putting their countries into the position that when it gets cold the countries are screwed - and China will be fat dumb and happy... "China has no intention to reduce fossil fuel use. Just the opposite.
A damning new report from GWPF outlines massive new energy projects being undertaken by the CCP which dwarf its figleaf ‘green energy’ enterprises, here’s a short excerpt, but everyone should download and read the full document.
China today relies on fossil fuels for 86% of its total primary energy consumption (58% from coal, 20% from petroleum and other liquids, and 8% from natural gas).28 Rather than curbing its appetite for fossil fuels, Beijing is voraciously seeking more. In the case of coal, China has aggressively relaxed regulations that restricted domestic coal production, seeking to rapidly raise production capacity. ‘In the first half of 2020 China approved 23 gigawatts-worth of new coal power projects, more than the previous two years combined,’ reported AFP, citing Global Energy Monitor, a San Francisco-based environmental NGO. The CCP approved 141 million tons of new annual coal mining capacity in the first half of 2019. In all of 2018, it approved 25 million tons.
The story is similar with oil and gas, with huge new pipeline and fracking projects underway. It’s almost as if China knows that conditions are likely to get more difficult both in terms of international relations and in terms of climatic conditions, in the face of the solar grand minimum we are entering."tallbloke.wordpress.com/2020/12/14/china-has-no-intention-to-reduce-fossil-fuel-use-just-the-opposite/IF Astromet is correct and it is going to get bone chillingly cold; there will be countries like UK and Germany -and- possibly Australia that have so run down their fossil fuel electricity generation that many of their populations will die. Note- the date for all these EV edicts is 2030 - that is only 9 years away and as the world could be entering a new little ice age.

"China Suffering Mass Blackouts Following Aussie Coal Embargo
Millions of Chinese are suffering severe power supply problems, brownouts and blackouts. According to media reports the problems have been caused by fuel shortages, following Chinese President Xi Jinping’s embargo of Australian coal imports.
Beijing’s trade war with Australia spectacularly backfires as China is plagued by electricity woes plunging millions into darkness – after it refused delivery of $1billion of Aussie coal
Beijing blacklisted imports of Australian coal as part of the trade war last month Some 80 ships carrying $1.1b worth of coal are sitting off the Australian coast Coal prices have skyrocketed in China as domestic supply struggles to keep up Now provincial governments are imposing restrictions on electricity usage There are power outages and limits of heating and AC use during the cold winter
Millions of Chinese residents have been left without heating in the middle of winter as cities ration electricity amid a blockade on Australian coal.
Australia provided 57 per cent of China‘s thermal coal imports in 2019, which is used to generate electricity in power stations.
But last month, Beijing blocked Australian coal imports, which has resulted in 80 ships carrying more than $1.1billion in blacklisted cargo being stranded off the Chinese coast. This might just make the sheeple a little restive Puts the embargo on wine into perspective though

Interesting video - seems to have been missed by the memory holers Just a quick search on Google for "deepest fossils ever found" yields basically no useful information. Long time ago there was discussion of abiotic oil with some getting quite heated about it. I always wonder when a 'scientific' subject makes people heated if they have some kind of personal axe to grind. If oil were to be formed in the same way as coal one would expect it to be found in association with the carboniferous deposits But that does not seem to be the case.

Most NZ gas and oil has coal as its origin. As a result our oils are waxy and gas rich.
In general this is not the case as marine shales are the source. But the abiotic story is weak clearly if you cook the hell out of carbonates etc in a subduction environment you may yield some gas.
Its a little the same as talking about biogenic gas there are significant fields in the world in NZ some Italy and Russia also but without the conventional oil and gas industry they would not have been found or utilized.
A coal fired world alone would be possible but a lot poorer and apparently we will discover how much poorer soon.
