I've never had a flu shot and I've never had the flu. I exorcise my immune system regularly.

The comments of one researcher, of whom my comment was directed, do not make gospel and with all due respect, neither the flu shot nor your absence of being infected with the flu is a sound argument of cause/effect logic. I'm curious would you deny your own child a polio or smallpox vaccine and I'm also curious how do you exorcise your immune system? I am not anti vaccine if that's what you are thinking. My kids had all their shots. You exorcise your immune system by giving itself something to work on. I avoid anything labeled antibacterial. I keep my house reasonably clean without trying to be germ free. My cleaning products often have bleach in them. I wash my hands after using the restroom but I don't worry about the germs on the door handle. I don't use the cart wipes at the grocery store. Most of the time I don't even get colds. When I do, they are mild. Regular exposure to germs is good for you.

I have my flu shots every year, and have had no problems. Years ago (before I had flu shots!) I had a double bout of 'flu, maybe two different strains, and was very ill & it left me partially deaf. As an asthmatic, flu can lead to severe bronchitis, which can then lead to bacterial pneumonia. Immunisation is free to the old & chronic asthmatics here in Australia. I have friends who are fanatically opposed to 'flu shots, and see conspiracies everywhere. Most problems are common and normal human stuff ups!!! They happen. Never put it down to "evil" when common blunders are just as likely!

I also avoid anything labeled antibacterial and I agree with you there is undue pressure to be germ free! Yep, and let your young children sleep on animal skins and play in the dirt! Seriously. I use antibacterial cleansing gels when working with raw meat (usually wear gloves as well. But I use good old soap for general hand washing. My daughter is a chef with training in cooking for the aged & young, and it is amazing what can grow on food in a very short time. So strict cleaning and fast cooling of heated foods is important. But other than food prep and handling, I agree.

I hardly ever get sick. But I also wash my hands several times a day with just plain old soap. Hard to work with greasy hands, just sayin.
As far as bacteria, I wet age my steaks, and have never had a problem getting sick. But I also hand cut them myself, and I am a fanatic when it comes to being clean around food. Even making a salad, the utensils are kept separate and washed before being used on another food item.

Is important to not use the same utensils. My grandma taught me that one.
