[According to the plan, the United States will reduce carbon emissions 26-28 percent below 2005 levels by 2025, nearly twice the existing target—without imposing new restrictions on power plants or vehicles.]
The Martian view [from a safe distance] is that this is just playing to a political audience.
With the Republicans controlling the Senate and Congress, Red Planet News thinks there is zero chance of Obama passing any legislation.
If the EPA, and some strange quasi legal fiat are to be used, the paper feared for democracy.
In any event, the Martians don't believe the Americans are quite ready at this point to commit economic suicide, which is the only way the targets could be achieved, and regard the whole process as a fine example of the effects of cognitive dissonance.
They point to the LOW temperature records being broken in all sorts of places, and wonder if human brains are reading minus as plus.

Also, funny how they make it sound like a landmark deal, but read what the Chinese commit to. More or less nothing, it is funny. We give away the farm, they acknowledge that the climate might be an issue and they might try to stop accelerating their emissions sometime mid century.
Luckily, I don't think that agreement has any real teeth.

Years ago, when a leader made a foolish deal that really stank, he would be ridiculed for it at home.

I wouldn't want to be in a close combat situation with one of those rifle/bayonet combos.

Have a look at this, one of the most fascinating things.. Berlin at turn of the century. Closest thing you will ever get to a time machine. Colorizing makes it real, black and white never works. Look at how magnificent Berlin looked.
The Kaisers militarized Germany at the end.

When the Kaiser roll was born he was born breach and the doctors damaged his nerves pulling him out so the arm never really grew or could be used. All sorts of treatments were used to cure the arm like killing an animal, slicing it open and strapping it to the arm to infuse the vigor of the creature into the arm. that went on for years. I'm sure having small animals killed and then quickly strapped to your arm for years at a time would be good for a growing young mind. Later they started using modern medicene, they started to give him electrical shocks, which would have helped if it was muscle damage, but it was nerve damage so all it did was hurt. Then came the braces and rods and straps and more pain. By the time he was a young boy his entire life had been one of constant pain, fear, and horror. I won't get into his mother. Poor choice of words, last sentence, Code?

Luckily, I don't think that agreement has any real teeth. Not true. The Chinese committed to building a coal fired power station every 10 days for the next 16 years. Or as the agreement said "Their CO2 output would peak in 2030"
