I have used similar waffle to reply to a caller to a control tower All you have to realize it that the U stands for UNIDENTIFIED meaning we don't know what it was/is - there are LOTS of reasons for that. We used to have helicopters doing practice winching all over the place - out at sea over boats up in the Welsh mountains all over. You get a helicopter 9 miles away at 100ft or less winching it is stationary ** but may be changing heading a few degrees - one heading sends a sun glint to an observer on the shore then the next turn the glint disappears  Same for a helo up on 'the hill' That could lead to lots of reports to the tower. ** you haven't lived till you have stood on the back of a rescue boat out at sea talking with the coxswain and drinking a hot cocoa with rum in it, while still connected on a 'strop' to a helicopter flying in formation with the boat. Give mug back to coxswain - thumbs up and back up to helicopter. To be dropped into the sea again for collection by the boat then winch back up - and repeat all afternoon. |
