I had a problem with math from an early age -- possibly 13yrs -- math master was explaining quadratic equations and the fact that they gave two answers. The problem he used as an example was unfortunate it was something about men digging a trench and the answer was something like +3 -9. So I asked what I thought was a reasonable question - so math gives you two answers a correct one and a wrong one and you must guess which is which? The response was something along the lines of "Stupid boy! you cannot have minus 9 men digging a trench" From then on math ceased to interest me it was just like learning poetry or Greek - there was no real logic to math. It was not until I accidentally stumbled on propositional calculus and use in programming that I started to look at math anew. There is a nice book to read for those interested: www.amazon.com/Science-at-Crossroads-Herbert-Dingle/dp/0856160601 - he raises similar 'logic' arguments to my 13yr old self "One of Dingle's most simple and basic criticisms surrounds the so-called "twin paradox" claim of relativity, that if one twin was moving faster than the other twin the faster moving twin would age less, by arguing the obvious problem that two twins could not possibly have two different velocities relative to each other."{note I found the book by serendipity in the public library of Troon Ayrshire which is/was alongside the 'Royal and Ancient Golf Club'.} Your teacher had obviously never been on a government construction job.

This is the part that concerns me- "Once the monthly temperature data is collected and processed, it is placed in a "public" computer file for immediate access by atmospheric scientists in the U.S. and abroad."
