I may just need scuba gear, the tsunami forecast could take it across Florida and into the Gulf - where the resulting second tsunami may concern Mr Phydeaux if not Glen Question: You are sitting in the situation room in DC and an alert goes telling you that a large landslip has happened in the Canaries at Cumbre Vieja and that it is expected that 12 - 15 miles of Eastern seaboard of the USA will be inundated you have 6 hours... well now 5:30hrs it is 1am on a Sunday. Do you try to tell everyone on the entire East Coast to evacuate at least 15 miles inland or not?

That is a good question. I guess you have to balance how many people are going to die from the wave vs the panic created by emergency alert. I guess you warn them and hope for the best? Personally I would like the opportunity to get my family to the heights of the Texas Hill Country in the 14-16 hours given...

Depending on timing ... you heavily short the Florida real estate market. The major Florida interstates would quickly become impassable. However, you are in luck Naut. There are several central Florida high points that "might" remain dry ... mainly along the Lake Wales Ridge close to 300 ft. ... in Polk County south of Winter Haven. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Florida%27s_highest_pointsOr if you are in a rush ... nearly straight west of you in Marion County in the Ocala National Forest ... 173 ft and find a forest service tower. www.peakbagger.com/peak.aspx?pid=67196START EARLY

Yes the Lake Wales ridge is probably where to go it is 'the highest point in Central Florida' or so it says here is a view looking east(ish) from the top of the rise - you can see it is not exactly Mount Cook But it does have a tower that might survive a wave petering out on the 'hill'

Hard to imagine a wave 300 ft tall wave. I had a shoulder dislocated by what couldn't have been larger than a 7 foot tall wave.

When you say "the big one", my brain now has to decide if that is the mayor or the earthquake.

The Lisbon Earthquake of 1755 ... and ... Chronologically it was the third known large scale earthquake to hit the city (there had been one in 1321 and another in 1531). You will note where these fall on the timeline of solar activity. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1755_Lisbon_earthquake I blame 'Bary' I wonder if there is any way of calculating the LOD changes for those dates Talking of Length of Day -- we're speeding up
