It is strange how some people follow their stereotypes. Many years ago, in the 80's I was living in Troon, Ayrshire - which was a mix of rural Scots and the overpaid rich at the 'Royal and Ancient' Golf Club (and other similar venues). At a T junction out onto the 'main road' there was a white Bentley convertible with its roof down to display its white leather seats. The driver was in a wearing oversize reflective sunglasses, white open neck shirt open just too far with a large gold medallion. He also had that supercilious look that appears de-rigeur for Bentley drivers... Then turning in from the main road came a single deck bus of a type I only saw in Scotland looking like the 1950's. As it swung round in a hard right turn the driver double-declutched and revved the engine right alongside the Bentley. This was unfortunate as the high slung bus exhaust belched out a black cloud of unfiltered diesel exhaust right into the open top Bentley leaving everything white car, leather seats and driver's shirt now covered with oily black flecks - the driver's supercilious expression vanished much to the amusement of the plebs watching from the side of the road.

I'd propose the Bentley driver was also a complete banker...

I'd propose the Bentley driver was also a complete banker... You misspelled "banker", Acid. Well, Jeremy Clarkson is a seasoned and respected journalist and that's how he spells it π Mind you, as a Burmese chap walking across a bridge they made he commented there was a slope on it. His mate said there wasn't, it was just the angle the were looking at it....... Of course the BBC fired him eventually... Oh yeah, he went across Argentina in a car with the number plate F 1984 LND. They got mobbed.... They also went through Mississippi I think in cars graffitied with 'NASCAR is sht' 'gay love rules' and 'country music sucks' They also got mobbed then.

Saw a nice Rolls up in Vancouver a couple weeks ago it came with a driver and wife and I are looking at hybrids because it's getting expensive to drive in WA. Damn progressives are taxing, taxing, taxing. You need a comma after driver. Fast readers may get the wrong impression. Your last sentence has been proven again and again and again. We're working on a mandatory export program.

I think the word you were searching for is irreverent.

Speaking of remotely polluting vehicles, this beauty drove away from the park where we are staying; is that Miss Daisy in the passenger seat?

"The Dirt on Clean Electric Cars New research shows some drivers might spew out less CO2 with a diesel engine
Beneath the hoods of millions of the clean electric cars rolling onto the worldβs roads in the next few years will be a dirty battery.
Every major carmaker has plans for electric vehicles to cut greenhouse gas emissions, yet their manufacturers are, by and large, making lithium-ion batteries in places with some of the most polluting grids in the world."www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-10-16/the-dirt-on-clean-electric-cars

Ultimately the big issue is that these cars are coal fired.
When in Europe recently I spoke with many and called them coal fired which is what they are even in Norway due to to the interconnect, a few disputed this but only the technically illiterate could keep it going.
You ask two questions. Do they start a wind turbine when you plug in or uncover a solar panel" Virtually nobody can argue this away.
The second question is to ask what is the assume CO2 averted when you install a wind turbine or a solar panel. The answer is obviously they assume that it reduces coal usage. So if you plug in why are you allowed to assume that it increases wind and solar production electrical production. Heads I win tails you loose sort of argument from the left. All in the spin.
