"Research released on Friday, conducted by the UTS Centre for Media Transition on behalf of the Australian Communications and Media Authority, found 83 per cent of respondents were concerned that news on commercial television and radio broadcasters was influenced by large advertisers, and 88 per cent were concerned news is made more dramatic or sensationalised to attract viewers.
Almost 100 per cent of respondents notice commercial influence in all sources of news, and 76 per cent are concerned media companies use the news to promote businesses they own or have commercial interests in.
Of daily news consumers, 39 per cent are concerned it is being reported from a particular point of view, while 38 per cent of those who read newspapers at least once a week think this is the case.
Those surveyed were also asked about commercial influence across multiple sources of news. Consumers noticed commercial influence mostly on news that appeared on social media – 92 per cent – while 89 per cent noticed influence on television news and newspapers."www.theage.com.au/business/companies/in-media-s-wild-west-news-consumers-struggle-to-find-truth-trust-and-transparency-20200117-p53sfc.html

thanks it worries me as the Google search for WUWT is reading sort of anti but more aggressively than before. is this the beginning of the wedge? It is always possible - you could get a VPN service and then you can have a virtual presence elsewhere in the world. I would also avoid using Google search, I now use various others such as duckduckgo which keeps no history and doesn't seem to provide biased hints and vetted searches. It is quite instructive to do the same search one on Google and one on duckduckgo and see how different the first pages of results are.

"Why You Can’t Trust The Insurance Industry’s Secret Science On Climate Catastrophes Roger Pielke
“The last decade was the most expensive for natural disasters,” proclaimed Fox News, “over $1 trillion increase.” The Weather Channel announced, “Planet Had 40 Billion-Dollar Weather Disasters in 2019, the Fourth-Most on Record.” However, a close look at the insurance industry report that produced these incredible claims reveals some serious data issues and offers some lessons for when academics and the media should rely on insurance industry data on catastrophes.
I have studied the economic costs of disasters and their relationship to changes in climate for more than 25 years. One dataset that I have relied on in my research in recent years has been released by the insurance broker Aon in the form of an annual global catastrophe report, the most recent which was released last week. (Disclosure: I have in the past given several talks at Aon conferences and I co-authored a paper with one of the main authors of the new Aon report).
The new Aon catastrophe report immediately raised concerns for me because it reported about $3 trillion in catastrophe losses for the most recent decade, 2010 to 2019, whereas Munich Re, which has been tracking global catastrophe losses for many decades, reports only about $2 trillion in total catastrophe losses over the same period. Coronavirus in China: 23 Million QUARANTINED, 2.8 Million Infected; 112,000 DEAD
MULTIPLE UPDATES SINCE FIRST PUBLISHED . . . SEE BOTTOM -- The outbreak of an alleged new coronavirus in China is completely out of control, and is killing THOUSANDS every day.
As of 6:00 PM eastern US time on 23 January, Covert Intelligence sources who are former colleagues of mine from my 15 years with the FBI, the final five years handling National Security, Terrorism and Foreign Counter-Intelligence on the Joint Terrorism Task Force and who are presently inside China, confirm over 2.8 MILLION infected people with one-hundred-twelve-thousand (112,000) DEAD so far. Chief cause of death: Multiple Organ Failure.
This deviates wildly from the PUBLICLY reported number of 830 Infected and 25 deaths because . . . ready for this . . . . . A message from a frontline doc in Wuhan has confirmed the reason for the stopped growing number of infected is because the hospitals have run out virus test kits …
The thousands of dead are being taken directly to incinerators. No funeral. No burial. Just burned. halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/en/news-page/news-nation/coronavirus-in-china-20-million-quarantined-2-8-million-infected-112-000-deadand the rather confusing: "NHS staff are briefed on how to handle dead bodies infected with coronavirus - as health service is put on high alert over 'accelerating' spread of pandemic that has reached three areas of France
Public Health England said dead bodies will need to be put in sealed body bags Medics told to wear 'full-face visors' and GPs are to avoid any suspected victims The lethal virus from China has reached three locations across France" Public Health England said dead bodies will need to be put in sealed body bags Medics told to wear 'full-face visors' and GPs are to avoid any suspected victims The lethal virus from China has reached three locations across France So far 31 people have been tested by NHS but results have come back negative
" www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7930861/NHS-staff-briefed-handle-dead-bodies-infected-coronavirus.htmlSo we have reassuring talk from China but leaks saying its an out of control widespread infection and from Western press and authorities a mix of 'body handling' requirements and low numbers tested and all negative.
