I thought of starting this thread and the reason is because Mt Anak Krakatau seems to have its most volcanic activity just recently with alert level 3 from 1-4 scales. ;D There is much discussion about it though i find it hard finding infos about if a 1883 event or similar to that could happen again. I heard that its not impossible coz this baby actually became bigger than Krakatau! At least thats what ive heard. So any links photos etc will be admirable ;D I am really interested to this.

John Seach is one of the best vulcanologist around. And if you have the cash he will take you to whatever volcano you like. www.volcanolive.com/news.html

I have already looked at this site, though i dont look for a tour in volcanoes ;D. The question is if Anak Krakatau has the power to repeat the colossal Ultra-Plinian eruption of Krakatau in 27 Aug 1883. It is active, it is strong, it gives out strong indications that it will go boom in some time... Some say that because of the fact that Anak Krakatau is said to be smaller in height than Krakatau before its colossal eruption, it has not the required energy to repeat such event. Though i think that this is not true anymore because Anak Krakatau appeared in 1927 (correct me if mistaken) and rises about 13cm per week so i think that they say its a lot bigger than its daddy now. By the way Krakatau had VEI (Volcanic Explosivity Index) 6 in the 8-graded scale and for now Anak Krakatau erupts with many Strombolian and Vulcanian eruptions with some much larger eruptions by times to times. So i guess its VEI is more like 3 now. But my question is yet to be answered i can not find all the infos i want like if Anak Krakatau can major erupt as Krakatau did before (Anak Krakatau is in same location with Krakatau which major-erupted and left this volcano behind which grew larger). Its alert level is at 3 (Orange) one step from Red. Any experts or any people who studied this matter?

I'm not an expert by any means, but I think it is quite possible that any of the volcanos along the Sumatra/Java chain could potentially be another Krakatau ( including Anak ), due to tectonic stresses in that area. Predicting when is the trick. Take a look at the area in Google Earth. Open the Gallery and check Volcanos.

I don't even like to think about that going off, and I'm 1,800 miles away! But I don't spend nights lying awake over it either. Being paranoid over any of the many potential hazards of living is not healthy, and makes for a miserable life.

Being paranoid over any of the many potential hazards of living is not healthy, and makes for a miserable life. I live 800 miles east of Yellowstone. But as far as volcanoes go, that one is one that would cause severe worldwide cooling etc. I don't "worry" about it, just recognize it for what it is.
