I am not sure the study is valid. Folks have more exposure from garden based pesticides, than AG applied. It just kills me to walk through a garden center, reading the labels. I have to have a license to buy/apply most of what is sold to the general consumer. And they don't treat the chemicals as chemicals. Under a sink in most households there is more toxic waste than I apply annually to my farm. It is crazy. And folks use Roundup like it is candy, spray for mosquitoes, kill any odd grass or plant in a lawn etc. Funny, I let the dandelions grow because my grandkids walk in the grass. But then, I understand the risks. Sigur you´re right as far as this sort of free-bar for the use of domestic pesticides. A few days ago a friend of mine´s house was infected by bedbugs (this spring this is quite a problem and a plague in many city areas) then he went to the nearest supermarket and got a good provision of different "killers" for either air spraying or baits or surface treatments... this friend contacted another friend of mine that used to work for an anti-pest company. This common friend first told him NOT to apply any of these products by himself. Then he spent some time "instructing" us by reading all the products composition and their possible side-effects and all hidden dangers they bear, specially when a non-profesional use of this home pesticides is made. So next to any home we have a chemical bomb ready to be used by any of us without control. This case the house had to be shut for two days after the profesional treatment suggested by our expert friend was applied by him (free of charge -by the way- for both are unemployed) A few decades ago when green-house grows started spreading in southern Spain health conditions for workers were terribly dangerous with many reported cases of poisoning (and also one of highest rate of suicides using chemicals were detected). Nowadays such poisoning conditions have improved since the use of alternate plagues fighting solutions have been implemented, such as introduction of certain "good" bugs and insects that keep undesired bugs and insects under control... Transgenics are also a problem since many are designed to be able to resits and take higher dosis of plague-fighting chemicals, this "quality" has also been detected to be spreading among wild weeds surrounding agricultural grows... So, anything you can possibly do to limit the use of some chemicals on food production is a very wise measure! An beware as well of economic interest of chem industry for they just don´t like farmers turning to alternate plague-fighting methods when available... But sure you know far more than me on this and I would be pleased to learn more on the subject through your experience...

By difficult do you mean a difficult choice as to the best option? If that is what you mean then I think not. The players and the board are well know. The goals of the players are well know, their intentions less so. The game plays a bit like chess so the basic rules are known but what is not know is how the other players will move their pieces or when. The goals of this American Administration should be very clear to the United States military at this point in time and I'm confident the military has plans for this type of scenario on the books. What the American military wants to know is when this administration wants to use military might because it will change what is done. I would guess it's a bit like a dinner party, it all depends on when they want to eat. To answer the question the options for the American government, I believe, are clear and well developed and the question of what should be done has been answered long ago. The only question not answered is when. It´s a DIFFICULT point in my opinion since: - our "allied" Saudi Arabia (and others) have been crearly supporting extremist sunnies yihadist groups in Siria to overthrow pro-shii Damascus Regime. So then Siria through its shii-allied the lebanese group Hezbolla strongly supported (and dependent) by/of IRAN is containing yihadist in Siria and still seems far from falling... (can anyone really say who is the "good guy" here?) -so what do they do?: just Open a new war front so they (yihadist) move now the WAR to Iraq, and now we have two main "enemies" of US and Western World such Al-Quaeda-like groups or yihadist and Iran´s friendly current Bagdah´s government playing battles in IRAQ... -neither Al-Quaeda or pro-Iranian groups had anything to do in Iraq during infamous Saddam Hussein regime... -A GOOD JOB performed by US administration? Don´t think so... all that WAR and PAIN and cost and economic consequences you (we) are still paying for...for WHAT?... So yes, it´s a difficult decission what to do -or not to do- considering the long-term effects of past actions and decissions taken by different US administrations in the area...

We are doing ok. The rest of the country could do ok if it really wanted to, but the liberals are so intent on stifling growth that it is an uphill climb. LIBERALS in Spain were really born and labeled as such during Napoleon´s ocupation of Spain; they were patriots -with most illustrated leaders- fighting against French troops and finally as an oposition to absolutist monarquist. In seized city of Cadiz first "representative" courts were established and they draw our first democratic constitution in 1812. So LIBERAL here stands for liberty against absolutism, equilibrium between rights and duties and the establishment of CITIZENSHIP and people being citizens rather than subjects or vassel of an absolutist Crown. Ferdinand VII recovered his crown thanks to spanish people fighting and defeating Napoleon, yet he betrayed democratic 1812 Constitution and spanish people by re-establishing an absolutist monarquy. This historic fact explains Spain´s troublesome history and drama up til now... This is just to illustrate how different implications and meaning words and labels might have depending on time of history and country...

Thanks for your post and question! As for the article, basic info is correct, but I think it misses the point as for why Rating Agencies are raising our Credit Rating despite growing Debt reaching 100% o our current GNP. -First of all things could have been much worse. Such as it happened in Greece and Portugal and Ireland... but we were somehow "too big to fail" without blowing the whole EURO zone apart... so at one point there was a EU and ECB clear standing that our EURO was here to stay and that "watever conventional and non-conventional measures might be needed they would be taken without hesitation by the European Central Bank(s) etc." that makes investors a lot to think about... -Spain changed its own Constitution overnight introducing the mandatory priority of Debt refunding over any other expenses and needs for the end of days Spain might have, that includes education, health, defence... etc) Investors were very happy with this one also... -Spanish people is paying for the greed, corruption and crony capitalism of the past 30 years performed by crooked mediocres politicians being handled by finantial institutions and major energy and building corps. -up to 30% of total population is now below spanish poverty threshold. -up to 80% of people, including shrinkening middle-classes has been seriously affected... -Banks have been rescued with this terrible social pain being inflicted... Pain? Who cares, not investors -youth unemployment over 40% most places. Crowds of young well educated masses -education in Spain mostly paid by all-of-us as taxpayers- leave the country... -in 2007 over 20 millions of "pay-rolls" (total population 46millions) in 2014 barely 16 million and half of them with much lower wages... Having a job in Spain nowadays does not excludes you from margination and poverty... even graduated people are being offere insulting low-wage conditions... -BUT WE HAVE HANDLED THE KEYS OF OUR COUNTRIES SOVEREIGHNITY TO THE TROIKA and debtors so INVESTORS shouldn´t worry more about their money than they might worry about the future of our EU and EURO. Sadly enough -in my opinion- we have NO LIFE or better chance for our future quitting EURO or the European Union... -Our next parliament (2016) will show the deep decline of our two major parties PP (right) PSOE (left) and my bet is that Spain will experience our first "Gross Coalition" (like in Germany SPD and CDU). AND THAT, INVESTORS WOULD LOVE SO MUCH... But this won´t happen with my VOTE! Guess I ´ve said too much... sorry (that´s what you get for asking me )

Magellan, Russian oil fields are a train wreck. They are in desperate need of foreign investment and technology. Both of which will not come without a stable policy in Russia. To answer your question. What backs the dollar? Full faith and credit of the U.S. Which, for most of the world is still a much, much safer play than than anything Russia or China can offer. Foreign investment and technology for Russian oil fields might be gladly taken by China if a prolonged economic war and boycott to Russia takes place, in my opinion... What backs the dollar? 1- History and Confidence (None accepted worlwide currency but dollar is known so far. As long as people and markets keeps confidence past-present and future of dollar is assured and linked) 2- The WILL of major finantial, industrial and major world´s economic players. Even actors that in the long-run term want and would like to overthrow dollar as a global trading currency, Like China, wouldn´t like dollar to collapse from one day to the other...
