LOL Ratty. Had to cook them for another 1/2 hour to get the flutter out. Was a grand day here weather wise, and the company etc was grand as well.
I hope everyone has enjoyed this day as much as we did.

On the COI site below, Arctic temperatures appear to have spiked dramatically. I assume this means that a very large puff of Arctic air has gone South, and been replaced with warmer air [which will rapidly cool]. I wonder who will be the lucky recipients of that rather cold air?! ocean.dmi.dk/arctic/meant80n.uk.php

I wonder who will be the lucky recipients of that rather cold air?!Some jetstream analysis shows rather similar patterns over both N Am, and Western Europe, currently letting in warm air from the south for a good part of both as well. That's the general pattern for the last two summers as well, having a high pressure ridge sit-in at those respective locations. Latest pic always at: virga.sfsu.edu/gif/jetstream_norhem_00.gifThe site also has tools for creating some interesting animation loops of the pics.

Still mostly mild weather and snow free here in Norway. Yesterday we had 13c here in middle of norway while west coast had nearly 17c. And here is the stats so far for november here in trondheim: "Last 30 days: Average temperature was 5.1 °C, 4.5 °C above the normal. Highest temperature was 14.4 °C (01 November), and the lowest was -2.5 °C (18 November). "
So looks like it will end up 4.5c~ above normal.

No sign of an imminent winter here:
All I can say is if that ain't winter you can have it!

numerouno: Does a La Nina typically affect the climate of Finland? It does in the central USA on a consistent basis. In North Dakota we have enjoyed the typical La Nina type fall. I would hope it will last a few more weeks, but it does appear that a rather abrupt change is in store in the later type forcasts.

Does a La Nina typically affect the climate of Finland?Sigurdur, not to the extent that it would be mentioned anywhere in general literature in connection with the country's climatic conditions. This is the constant battleground of Polar, Atlantic, Central European and Russian weather. FMI through hs.fi: "Weather in November [2011] was warmer than average in the whole of the country. This was the ninth consecutive month with a higher than average temperature. (..) The average temperature in the country was 1.3 degrees C, which is 4.9 degrees C above the long-term value. (...) This November was among the three warmest months of November ever measured. (...) There has been an exceptionally small snow coverage. (...) According to the statistics, in a normal year there should be a permanent snow cover at the end of November in the east and in the north. (..) Such a warm autumn was last experienced in the year 1938." (my translation & emphasis) www.hs.fi/kotimaa/Marraskuu+oli+poikkeuksellisen+leuto/a1305550476202Maps: ilmatieteenlaitos.fi/marraskuuNote the relative increase of the temperature anomaly towards the Arctic (6C).

The colours here are more than a bit counterintuitive, but I think you'll get the general drift. [U. of Köln (Cologne)] Edit: I changed the whole chart into something perhaps more informative:

"The colours here are more than a bit counterintuitive"
Agreed. What the hell are they supposed to mean?
Is zero the normal? If so, is the Greenland icecap in danger of freezing?
ON EDIT: I see that Ireland's pinkly-purpley (zero Celsius) colour might be the actual temperature here in North-Atlantic-Drift bathed sunny Ireland. I felt guilty for those without a garage when I was driving to work yesterday because their vehicles were covered in unseasonal ice!

Winter has finally turned up here in the UK. I hate a warm Christmas (like we got in the late 1980's and mid 2000's), however the last few years have been amazing I'll change the thread name. As a side note it has been so mild here of late I have a potato crop regrowing

The potatoe crop won't start re-growing in this neck of the world until next spring. Colder air was a surprise this morning. -8F it was. A bit below the forcast and below seasonal averages. We have enjoyed the La Nina warmth, but I do believe that has now expired.
OH well....was nice while it lasted.
