As forecasted, the spring floods are starting: On Saturday, April 20, 2013, NBC out of Chicago reports that, "Chicago isn't the only city fighting rivers after flooding seized the area throughout the week. Artists, farmers, National Guardsmen — even prison inmates — pitched in Saturday to help a small Missouri river town hold back the bulging Mississippi River. By Saturday, the sudden floods had stopped, but river flooding was getting worse, both on the Mississippi and on dozens of smaller rivers in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan and Missouri. Levees were threatened, and hundreds of people had been evacuated from their homes. The National Weather Service predicted what it characterizes as "major" flooding on the Mississippi from the Quad Cities through just north of St. Louis by this weekend, with similar projections further south into early next week." That really won't help considering that we have flooding started in the Midwest with the late spring melts. Moreover, the cold, wet spring has led to nearly 10,000 cold and snow records being set in the United States in the last six weeks: High temperature records: 1,214 Low temperature records: 3,464 High minimum temperature records: 1,957 Low maximum temperature records: 4,323 Snowfall records: 2,000

Yes, it's been a cold wet spring as forecasted Flyguy. There are some regions that got a good start with the declination of Mercury recently, so we will see planting season into late April into early May. There's been precipitation but the water has to get down into the sub-soil in drought areas to make a difference. However, there were a lot of farmers who planted too early and are going to lose a lot, especially the regions with the late snow-melt leading to floods in the Midwest.

My neighbor said he aint waiting any more. its time to plant corn he says View AttachmentFor most farmers it is time to plant, but we'll see a bit of rains and colder temperatures in the corn belt this Monday and Tuesday, with precipitation into the first several days of May. Weather conditions generally improve with warmer night-time temperatures the closer we get to the new moon of May 10th, so this is planting season, several weeks late due to the cold early spring, but better late than never.
