Buckles being observed in de ice! Poor little fella .... hope he doesn't fall through: He is safe until the 19th as long as he doesn't wander out too late after dinner. IF he waits till supper time, then he will have to swim.

I did not enter the contest this year... I don't even have time to hit the head to tell you the truth. So as someone with nothing on the line, I'm sort of surprised that the ice looks as good as it does. With how weird the winter was I thought for sure that ice would go very, very early. I was wrong about that.
In other news, My family and I were up there for the 7.1 quake. I have been in a lot of quakes in my time, but that was the first time I have ever cowered in a doorway. Damn near needed a diaper.
Stay cool!

That is until experiencing a big one. Now the little ones get a big rise of fearful anticipation as the big one started just like the little ones. . . .just a little shaking.

The tri pod is starting to drift. I'm not seeing it... From the web page... As of March 29th, 2016 The Tanana River finally froze completely over around February 4th, 2016. We've had a very mild winter, with temperaatures not getting colder than around -20 degrees, our winters usually hit -40 to -55 degrees. With milder temperatures, it took longer than usual for the river to freeze this year. The river is frozen solid from bank to bank. We had an extremely warm February and March has been a typical March, warm during the day and cooler in the evenings. The temperatures have been in the upper 30's to the mid 40's during the day and dropping to the mid teens to the lower 20's in the evenings. Ice measurements are being taken every Monday & Thursday until the river is no longer safe for us to go out to get the measurements. The measurement taken on March 28th was 36.7 inches. We take measurements in different areas on the river, so the ice measurements vary. We do this so we can get a good idea as to how the river ice is doing, the ice thickness isn't the same across the river, thinner in some places while thicker in others. This page will be updated as changes in the ice occur.
