Sig, is it only for places beginning with 'T' for Temperature?

A pity that they keep doing this (and then idiots average them). It would be more useful to see how long those temperatures persisted or even better an integral of some sort. Such as the average kilojoules per kilogram over the day. A peakn air temperature that persisted for a minute is not a useful value.

I don't know about that, Naut; some find that info very useful: Heat records fall as Sydney sizzlesSydney has experienced its hottest day on record, with temperatures passing 45 degrees across the greater city area.
The mercury hit 45.8 degrees Celsius at Observatory Hill at 2.55pm, 0.5 above Sydney's previous hottest day in 1939.
Across greater Sydney, the hottest temperatures recorded were at Penrith (46.5C at 2.16pm), Camden (46.4C at 3.04pm), Richmond (46.4C at 3.01pm), Sydney Airport (46.4C at 2.32pm) and Bankstown (46.1C at 3.28pm).While I'm at it: Fake temperature records at Sydney's Observatory Hill

This is why someone who lives near Alice Springs can visit Brisbane and complain about the heat.

Another 35mm overnight and TC Iris looks like re-forming in the Coral Sea. People in FNQ have probably had enough too. This morning via Twitter the BoM said former TC Iris had "a burst of life overnight” and is now has a "high chance” of redeveloping back into a tropical cyclone on Tuesday.
Love the colours!!

Tonight's low is forecast to be 25 F. That would be our 5th lowest temperature for April 1st (technically April 2nd since it will be past midnight) in our 129 year record since 1890. The mean 128-year normal minimum is 39 F. Only one day, so that's weather ... but years with similar are notorious, and they cluster. The April 4th low is forecast to be about the same.
Colder April 2nds (minimums) are: 1899 24 F (the year the Mississippi River froze over above New Orleans) 1936 23 F 1992 23 F 2013 25 F
Runners up 1902 28 F 1908 26 F 1909 27 F 1944 28 F 1961 28 F 1962 29 F 1970 27 F 1975 26 F 1987 28 F

Takeaway is that the forecasts are not changing April going to be significantly colder than normal for most of CONUS

The spring bluebird of happiness has reservations elsewhere. Winter storm Wilbur - they're running out of letters. If forecasts hold, 2018 Apr. 1-7 mean high temp. will rank 2nd coldest since 1890 (tied w/1936) after 1899. Mean Low temp. will rank 4th coldest (tied w/1891 and 1975) after 1899, 1936 and 1920. Impressive for weather. Means are 62 F and 40 F for these dates. Records are 42 F and 27 F.
