Great fun, but besides the logistics of it, I doubt it would be possible to convince people to accept such circumstances. The cultural and lifestyle differences among the worlds population would be impossible to deal with. Ever seen the inside of a big city "low rent project"? Not pretty.
I certainly wouldn't give up my little patch of open ground without a fight. But there are some people who sincerely believe such miserable living conditions are not only possible, but preferred.

The sad thing is, some of those people are now in positions of power.

Ever hear of the 'Wildland Project' ? Instigated at Kyoto with the aim to bar human activity from vast swathes of the countryside and force us all to live in cities.

Chuckle. Ratty, my friends near Casino have been telling me quite a lot about Oz' climate lately. They seem to think it's unusually humid - which goes hand in hand with their higher observed temps. Dihydrogen oxide vapor is this Earth's primary greenhouse gas, after all.

That would be the environmentalist movement to "re-wild" 50% of N. America, correct? Championed by EarthFirst among others. I believe they have changed their name to Wildlands Network - www.twp.org/cms/index.cfm?group_id=1000The map they have on their website: Notice that the only outlet to the ocean is the Gulf. From a strategic defense and trade point of view, this is totally unacceptable. Won't happen.

Even less acceptable. Besides what I mentioned earlier, I have to wonder where and how they plan to grow and distribute food and other essentials, dispose of waste, etc. for those high density villages. These people are out of their freaking minds.

There are many powerful people who (want to) believe our planet can support only 10% of its current population. There have been many "powerful people" throughout history who have attempted to impose their twisted visions, who are now pushing up daisies. And there will be more laid along side of those. Humanity is not so easily subdued as some believe.

Herman Goering hoped to recreate a primeval Aryan wilderness in the conquered territories of Eastern Europe. The families pushing for this are the same families that supported the Nazis.

Welcome to UN International Year of Biodiversity.Sorry, animals are going extinct and it's you or them: "The expansion of human cities, farming and infrastructure is the main reason. Dignitaries including UN chief Ban Ki-moon and German premier Angela Merkel will speak at the launch in Berlin. Mr Ban is due to say that human expansion is wiping out species at about 1,000 times the "natural" or "background" rate, and that "business as usual is not an option"." As I understand it species go extinct all by themselves all the time to be replaced by new species. Amazon deforestation dropped by half last year and Brazil's population is going to plateau in the next couple of decades, followed soon after by the global population. I feel uneasy when they rule out business as usual.

Good. You should. Because all it means is they want to impose their agenda on everyone else, and at first they use the tactics of fear and guilt, with themselves as the saviors. Sound familiar?
