I have a question
For all the peeps talking about the arctic ice breaking up, can someone explain what the cause/effect of all the icebreakers in the ocean be?
Im really curious if that is taken into account.

Pontack recipe
Makes 2 pints
* 2 pounds fresh elderberries, or 12 ounces dried * 4 cups cider vinegar * 1 pound shallots, minced * 10 cloves * 10 allspice berries * 1 teaspoon nutmeg * 2 tablespoons cracked black peppercorns * 1 teaspoon salt
1. Take all the elderberries off the stems; the stems are slightly toxic, and you don’t want to eat them. A couple are OK, but do your best to remove them all. Take your time, and if you are skilled, you can destem 2 pounds in less than 30 minutes.
2. Put the elderberries into a casserole or other oven-proof dish with the vinegar and cook at 250 degrees for 6-8 hours. Your house will smell like fruity vinegar during this time, which isn’t such a bad thing.
3. Pour the cooked liquid through a strainer (to catch all the berries) and into a large bowl. Let the cooked berries cool enough to handle, then, with your clean hands, press as much juice as you can from the berries and into the bowl. You might need to do this in batches.
4. Discard the spent berries.
5. Pour the sauce into a pot and add the remaining ingredients. Simmer gently for 25 minutes. Strain one more time to remove the spices.
6. Return it to the pot and bring it to a boil; let it boil for 5 minutes.
7. Meanwhile, get very clean Mason jars or other containers and clean lids, corks or whatever. This sauce is primarily vinegar, so you really don’t have to worry too much about it going bad, but you still want clean things to put your pontack in.
8. Pour the hot pontack into your containers and seal. Let cool and put in your pantry. Should last at least 7 years. Really. It does.

Seattle Washington Area
All the trees in my Neighborhood that lose their Leaves are already turning and dropping. Neighbors Crab Apples are already ripe and dropping.
Cold this week highs in the 60s and lows at night from 45-50, that's normally late September weather.
And slh1234 yes this is cooler/wetter a lot earlier than normal.

and a very very rainy winter-Spring in Southern Spain... interesting... Did the rain help or hurt the Sherry Grapes in Andalusia area (Cadiz/Rota/Jerez). Mmm Solara 1847, Pan and Queso Amarillo I need to go visit there again (I was stationed at Base Naval De Rota from Jan 79 to Jan 82)

We have had one of the Coolest Summers since I remember moving here in 1989 (I'm in the Seattle Washington Area). Last few days have felt (I know subjective) like late September rather than August.
I think the weather guys said this is the Lowest amount of days in the 70s of any summer.
It feels COLD. we will get near 80 today but then they say fall like weather returns and there is no more heat days in sight.
Spydies been busy with lots of webs. Don't normally see this till mid/late September.
Black Berries are all in full ripe mode, that's again normally Mid September.
Weird, I'm not looking forward to winter local National Weather Service guy mentioned Snowpocalips on the TV.

I dont agree with the japanese whaling, but its legal even though I know its not ethical
But WHAT the Sea Shepherd group is doing is both Un-Ethical and I dare say ILLEGAL. Trying to disable and ruin equipment would be considered Piracy in the non-PC world and would garner a 5" shell amidships.

Puget sound area of Washington State (Puget Sound is the Body of water next to Seattle and stretches north to Everett and South to Tacoma) has been in a Freezing snap for the last 5 days. We've broken several cold records dating back 90 - 100 years.
Its very strange the NCDC.NOAA site above only shows 7 or 8 records broken, but the TV newscasters are talking 20-30 cities.
Disconnect ??
