I don't think the laws of thermodynamics are the problem. But you do have to pump the undiluted saline into the tank to rebuild the salinity while the dilute saline spins turbines. will more energy be used than generated?
There is a "latent energy" in higher concentration solutions, not the latent we normally talk about but a type of entropic lower randomness higher concentration solution.
I don't think the oil giants are scared of this one.

GW must be disappointing to see Nullschool SSTA return to their cooling ways as expected in the tropical Pacific.

Arctic now cooling sit on your hands and watch.
CAGW or even AGW does not stand or fall on the timing of the Nino flip month.
In five years I do think the picture will be much clearer 45 years of satellite data will demand model alignment to fact (history match)

more snow in the Antarctic squeezes the 3000m of ice to the edges its not melting. If more ice were to form then less water is left for the world to be cooked under, negative feedback. the fact that the world is not frozen or boiled shows the system to be self buffering the bulk of the solar energy falls in a very small portion of the tropics which is self regulating.

How can one degree or even two degrees C make great areas of the world wastelands. The north of Australia is 10C warmer than the south people both places.
Regardless of how warm it becomes there will still be very cold periods in the future even in temperate little UK.

The placebo effect is as effective as virtually all chemical prescriptions.
Its got huge value but how do you apply it with integrity.

So the question is do you vote for hillary who will serve her own needs and run the country quite wellish or do you vote for a fruit cake.
Donald has the virtue that what will follow is change at all levels, the very fabric of the weak US democracy will be up for change and long overdue.
The problem is that there will be blood through his madness but fast and there will be madness and blood through Hillary's but slowly for decades to come.
We in the rest of the world worry that we will be absorbed into this madness.

Yes there will be a winter freeze from a wind change that will trap animals in the wrong valley or to high for the time of season.
These animals had social outcasts and pecking orders that pushed sub groups to poor regions and they got trapped late in the season at the snow line. Then next season there was a surplus of snow and they never emerged. not one day but several seasons of cooling fast but not silly fast cooling.

So there is a rule book.
Please send the old rules to the model boys because they have never and I repeat never successfully history matched any model. Ah one correction they have adjusted history to match more closely the models.
The world has never known what the drivers of the Nino's are and until that is unpicked settled science is a joke.

I love the explanation for the Antarctic sea ice growth. Even though the models are wrong they are actually correct.
I am encouraged that they can record the words "ice area growth", but it is a real religion when all outcomes prove the hypothesis.
