Looks like things will get interesting around max ice down in Antarctica as Nino should be beginning to hit peak values so messing with global circulation more? To see ice levels down on most recent years hints at this change? We shall see as the last of the winter storms meet with the largest extent? With Ross Sea making up the bulk of the 'extra ice' it will be interesting to see just how far out the ice can push compared to previous years. The findings of maximum ice cliff height make the retreat (beyond the sill) even more problematic with the prospect of 300m ice cliffs (200m above max stable levels???). If anyone needed to know why we see decadal pulses of rapid seas level rise then you can now include the mega calvings/collapses we are about to witness! Well, Graywolf, the collapse you're expecting should be quite a doozy! Do you own a boat? Global Sea Ice: 11th Highest For This Day – Above the 1981-2010 mean. Antarctic Sea Ice: 2nd Highest For This Day – 1.2 million sq km above the 1981-2010 mean. Above 2 standard deviations. Arctic Sea Ice: 2nd highest since 2004; only 2008 was higher. Within 1 standard deviation. Source: sunshinehours.wordpress.com. -- Day 186

So how would this sit in the liability for advice area. Obama is a very smart person but when it comes to the end and there enters an element of desperation the intellect flies out the window. What a sad legacy for a transformational piece of history with the US having its first black president, and now its this rubbish. President Obama is not smart. That is very apparent. Every time he speaks he isn't expressing knowledge. He is so dumb that he can't see a red hearing when it is served to him on a plate. I feel sorry for the poor guy. Sig, In my view... he is always the most stupid person in every room he's in. His ideology acts like blinders on a horse. (In this case a horse's ass).

Look on the bright side, graywolf... maybe the bergs will float to the Arctic. Then all will be well!

This is the first time I have heard of fatalities on one of those AGW "science" expeditions. On one hand, I'm surprised it has taken this long. On the other hand, I doubt it will be the last. coldfacts.org/news Interesting story. I will be interested to find out how the two individuals perished but not the dog. If they can even determine that level of information. It's harsh up there to say the least (as you would know!).

So it's apparently agreed that no one is aware of any falsifiable Global Warming model and therefore unaware of any Global Warming science. Agreed. Although Graywolf may have a different opinion...

Neil, Near as I can tell the ice went out April 23 last year. alaska-native-news.com/tripod-holds-firm-as-record-breaking-nenana-ice-classic-jackpot-is-declared-10124Surprisigly, I found this from the National Snow and Ice Data Center... The Tanana River in the interior of Alaska freezes over during October and November. The ice continues to grow throughout the winter accumulating an average maximum thickness of 110 cm, depending upon winter weather conditions. The Nenana River Ice Classic competition began in 1917 when railroad engineers bet a total of 800 dollars, winner take all, guessing the exact time (month, day, hour, minute) the Tanana River ice would break. Each year since then, Alaska residents have guessed at the timing of ice breakup. A tripod (connected to an on-shore clock that stops when the ice breaks) is planted in approximately a half meter of river ice during freeze-up in October or November. The following spring, the clock automatically stops when the tripod moves determining the official time of ice breakup. Many factors influence ice breakup, such as air temperature, ice thickness, snow cover, wind, water temperature, and depth of water below the ice. Generally, ice on the Tanana River breaks up in late April or early May (historically, April 20 to May 20). The time series of the Nenana ice breakup dates can be used to indicate climate change in the region. nsidc.org/data/docs/daac/nsidc0064_nenana.gd.html

Global Sea Ice 2nd Highest For Day 361 (27 Dec) Only 2007 was higher for day 361.When it "melts" it's global warming. When it expands, it's global warming. It's amazing what global warming can do!

Graywolf (I love ya!): "Another global record warm month for October then? (knocking September off the top spot) and a record warm first 10 months of the year? Looking like a record warm year might well be the result of this ENSO neutral, alleged PDO negative? IPO negative Arctic recovery type of a year eh?"Graywolf, you live on a wonderful planet. I just wish I knew which one it was!
