Looks like i can declare this the shittiest summer in my lifetime. We had maybe 2 single summer days with half decent temps of around 25c. The few rest summer days ended with rain or thunderstorm that instantly brought the temperature down to around 15c. The long term forecast that goes well into august shows no sign of improvement and instead shows that weather will again cool down, so i guess that means fall arrived even earlier than i expected. Also checked the ocean/fjord temp today.. A whole 12c while we in late 90s-2003 had around 20-25c during the warmest time of summer. Also what is up with the low night temps this summer?? The night temps nearly always drops below normal even on those few days when we have normal or half decent day temps. I thought more CO2 would lead to less heat loss during nights? ;P Sorry to hear about your poor summer, boxman. For some years I lived in Washington State, USA. Some summers were wet, cloudy and cold... then fall arrived with more of the same! Very depressing. That's quite a drop in the fjord temps! I hope you get better weather before the chill of autumn. Then again, you could always move in with Touko!

Watch your pockets thieves are still in the house... "Lack of votes for Senate Democrats' energy bill may mean the end" "Conceding that they can't find enough votes for the legislation, Senate Democrats on Thursday abandoned efforts to put together a comprehensive energy bill that would seek to curb greenhouse gas emissions, delivering a potentially fatal blow to a proposal the party has long touted and President Obama campaigned on. " www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/07/22/AR2010072203614.html?hpid=topnewsAt a very low moment for his cause, with Democrats giving up on a climate bill for now, Al Gore puts out a statement: "The need to solve the climate crisis and transition to clean energy has never been more clear. The oil is still washing up on the shores of the Gulf Coast and we've just experienced the hottest six months on record. Our troops are fighting and dying in the Middle East and our economy is still struggling to produce jobs. I continue to urge the president to provide leadership on this issue and urge the Senate to make this issue a priority for the remainder of this Congress. Ultimately — and sooner rather than later — these issues simply must be dealt with. Our national security, our economic recovery and the future of the United States of America — and indeed the future of human civilization on this Earth — depends on our country taking leadership. And that, in turn, depends on the United States Senate acting. The truth about the climate crisis — inconvenient as ever — must be faced."www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0710/Gore_on_climate_Inconvenient_as_ever.html"the hottest six months on record." In reference to his hotel rooms, apparently. Shut up, Al.

magellan, "And to be clear, La Nina is not the opposite of El Nino. That is a misconception many have with ENSO, myself included."
Could you provide a short explanation or a link? If that is a misconception, I admit I had/have it also. Thank you.

Yeah but because its black it will create heat and will contribute to Global Warming. Its not allowed without the proper taxation. Come back when you have found a White "Eco friendly" panel Simple. Just paint them white. After all, 0bama's Secretary of Energy (did you know he has a Nobel Prize?!) said we should paint our roofs white. Solves almost everything. Just add confiscatory taxes, tight regulation and limits on CO2, and the world is saved. It's so simple! That's why icefisher's idea will work. So, can we get Al Gore to buy in?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning–Kruger_effect"The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which an unskilled person makes poor decisions and reaches erroneous conclusions, but their incompetence denies them the metacognitive ability to realize their mistakes." socold, This reference is interesting, but I think it would equally apply to "skilled" as well as "unskilled" persons. I suppose most of us could come up with a list of individuals or groups where hindsight reveals they made 'poor decisions,' reached 'erroneous conclusions' and were incompetent enough to not realize their mistakes. No argument with you. I just find the definition too restrictive. Maybe they have another "_____ - _____ Effect" term for "skilled persons" who screw up.

What would the beginning of a Maunder type minimum look like? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Sunspot_Numbers.pngIn this image it looks like the sun sputtered like a car engine that is not hitting on all cylinders for several years before it really hit bottom. I hope I am not too much of an alarmish. Funny, you don't look alarmish! ;D
