Men need spiritual support, not dogma. The Pope condemns homosexuality, but cannot control abuse by priests. The church's teachings are out of context in a worl where reproduction might not be top priority. Our President must not find church attendance time effective. He is the first I can remember since Kennedy who for the most part has not gone to church. It shows the obsolescence of a four-century-old American tradition of praise, singing, and fellowship. So, what I am trying to show is that men do not have support from religion in our culture. It is a problem, for one thing, because religion DOES offer men support in other nations with vastly different social and economic systems. We are weakened as a nation. scpg02, my wife got a kick out of your "ham" radio. Glad she liked it. About that homosexuality in Catholisism thingy. It came with the Roman's not the Christian. The Romans before the amalgamation with Christianity, was well, very much practising homosexuality. So much so.. young boys recruited for (mentoring) in the household of various leaders, and was an honor to be one of the boys. Darn those Christians for telling us it was bad. Go back a bit further and the Greeks too yeah oh yeah. But go figure when it came to they're women and wives there were plenty of those as well. Paul in his letter to the Romans was quite adamant about his warnings to the "practising Romans," and he included woman who also practised homosexuality. Kinda like Paul letting us know the Romans had a different opinion or difference of opinion about this.

there is something very appealing about an English accent. Course the same could be said for many other accents. I like American accents ;D , however I draw the line at Sarah Palin she sounds like a strangled turkey

More on the Sarah Palin issue I was chatting to my children about Blur's song "The Universal" and my eldest girl said that the lead singer looked "cool". I then told them about the clockwork orange, which was banned in the UK by Stanley Kubrick as people in the UK were copying it rather than being shocked. As the US is becoming a post world leader like the UK, it is copying what happened here in the UK (around the time that the film was released) and Sarah Palin is an example of this as the right wing of US politics is wallowing in what the US was (just as the UK did when I was a kid) and has to face up to the fact that the US is a different place from 10 years ago The US could still rise from the ashes, but it will take some very clear vision by US leaders to pull this off and the current infighting echos the difficult periods of the Roman empire (it took some great leaders to stop the rot). As has been pointed out by Mark Twain "History does not repeat itself, but it rhymes" ;D

I think they are going to use her to split the conservative vote, re-electing Obama.

I think this point is missed outside the US, and often by politically minded in the US as well.

As an aside, one of my favorite scenes in the muppet movie was Fozy driving through the forest and he says a bear in its natural habitat, a Studebaker.

Fozy bear drives a Studebaker. So he is driving through the forest (normally a bears natural habitat) and comments about a bear in its natural habitat...pause... a Studebaker. I guess you had to be there. I'll see if they have a clip on youtube.
