Internal organs an appendages are quite popular around here ... which drives up the price. Beef tongue is outrageously expensive here. And tripe is a lot more expensive here than in Flagstaff, AZ, where I developed a taste for it. Don't know about raw with vinegar. Seems a shame to cover its natural flavor that way. I have noticed that - food staples in UK like steak and kidney pie (or pudding), liver (nice with onions) and braised hearts are just not available. Cold sliced tongue can be good too available in most supermarkets in UK. Haggis with turnips and washed down with whisky is a good meal. With you on the whisky part .... haggis? Not so much.

It does sound like an attempt to sterilize any trace of it in your mouth. I could possibly try the haggis after 2 or 3 whiskeys.

Don't knock it if you haven't tried it - it tastes really good add neeps and tatties (turnip and potato) and a half tumbler of whisky and it can be a good evening. It is the normal fare on Burn's night when the haggis is piped with a bagpiper and the master of ceremonies recites the address to the Haggis by Rabbie Burns (see wikepedia ) Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face, Great chieftain o' the puddin-race! Aboon them a' ye tak your place, Painch, tripe, or thairm: Weel are ye wordy o' a grace As lang's my airm. There are 8 verses of that old Ayrshire Scots. The gathered guests 'toast the haggis' with whisky and it is then served

It looks interesting, I'd give it a go. My ancestors didn't bring haggis with them to our generation.

The Joyce's are fighting men. I can read the body language ... but I'll be damned if I understood a word they said.
