Is this because ENSO and IOD are linked, precipitation shifts from one side of Indian ocean to other as ENSO changes state. The IOD does get some influence from the West Pacific warm pool leaking through the various straits and archipelagos into the northern Indian ocean. Whether there is sufficient 'leakage' westward to have a major effect.....

Whether there is sufficient 'leakage' westward to have a major effect..... This is the West African summer monsoon season, whose source moisture is supposedly from Westerlies off the Atlantic. With the dramatic fall in summer pressures at Gibraltar and the Azores, I was assuming a stronger and deeper flow into the southern Sahara from the Atlantic. Is there an Indian ocean component as far west as Nigeria? That would be something.

It runs from the Indian Ocean North of Madagascar to Nigeria not hugely strong but it is there at the 250Mb level.

But I suppose short is relative if winter starts in October. A February end would be seasonally short and happily accepted ... but still a 3-monthe winter: Nov., Dec., Jan.

Cooling the bins now for long term storage. Will be shipping some of the overrun to Simplot tomorrow. They use round whites to make waffle fries.

The low for Dalhart Texas on Monday night is forecast to get down to 12F. On October 27th? In Texas?
I think it is safe to use the word "unprecedented"

It was -9F a few mornings ago in Western ND. In the east, we are running 20F below our 100 year normals.
The deep south is looking very inviting.
Someone asked, Aren't you afraid of getting Covid19? My answer, NOPE. I am much more afraid of freezing my a** off.
