Today, data will be sporadic as a result of the EVE cruciform calibration maneuver. The satellite will swing back & forth and up & down for 8 hours.

Tomorrow [Dec 2nd] is the 15th anniversary of the launch of the SOHO spacecraft. Thanks for the reminder Leif. The Old Girl has served us well all these years. I hope that someone will put together a documentary about the mission. It is quite a story. The rescue mission was a feat that has never been matched since. And yes I am thinking about Hubble.

Doesn't the ACE replacement say it all about science funding today? Al Gore proposes the satellite to glorify the planet as a location and do little real science, then Bush balks because it might glorify global warming, then we have to spend half the original budget to make it do the real science it probably should have done in the first place. No politics there, are there? Can we please remove all the left and right wing politics from science funding...

GSFC is reporting that SDO's ground system is down for maintenance. It sounds like they are doing work on the data communications link between JSOC and LMSAL. They say some functions will be restored tonight but AIA Images will be out for the weekend.
