Leif With the recent spate of spots did Bill Livingston get an opportunity to make anymore measurements ? If so what are the results ? As a follow up, has Bill Livingston been able to get some telescope time for a look at 1039?? G.

No, his first shot will be on January 24th, 2010 Time to get the ATST (Advanced Technology Solar Telescope) project on the road. What' s the construction time for that scope ? Something like 10 Years ? They haven' t even broke ground on it yet !

I realize that their work may be a bit like swimming upstream but, if it continues to pan out, it has some serious implications. It is really unfortunate that they can't seem to get some much- needed priority!!! G.

It is the one observation that is outside the "seen that measured that" line and should have first priority in my opinion.

The annual averages from the previous cycles have been dropping since the cycle 21 to 23. But the monthly average during the maximum's day has been increased each cycle. Has reduced the average life of sunspots from cycle 21 to present? This could be an indication of the Theory of Livingstone and Penn, isn't it?
Happy New Year!

Too bad there's no way to let the governing bureaucracy know that Bill Livingston's work might REALLY be important. A way that is, without making the "system" mad and causing the priority situation to get even worse!! G.

Agreed, George, about L&P.
Maybe one day we will have evolved as a species to recognize the brilliant among us (the physicists) and the need to fund their research.
One day Science will loom more important than MTV and Hollywood.
Hopefully, though, before it is too late.

Slightly off topic but as a Kiwi whenever someone in this thread mentions L&P I immediately think of Lemon and Paeroa - a soft drink that's world famous in New Zealand.

Recent crop of sunspots was stronger and longer than the previous one (around 20/11/09), but AA index is considerably weaker. Anything to it ?
